For a trip to Thailand, I am planning for a trip of around 80 days.

I want to get a tourist visa for 60 days and extend it while in Thailand.

How can I extend my tourist visa while in Thailand? Do you have any links to the proper information on the Thai embassy website ?

Passport : USA

Visa : Tourist visa

Thanks for the help

A Thai Embassy or Consulate doesn't have anything to do with extending visas.

When you get near the end of the 60 days, go to any Thai Immigration office and for 1900 baht they'll give you a 30 day extension.

The links are on the website of the Immigration Bureau. For your case it is paragraph 2.4 of these two documents:

Thai Police Order 777/2551

Immigration Bureau Order 305/2551

Thanks - follow up question - can I just go to get the extension when I arrive in Bangkok, or will the extension only be given if it is within some certain number of days before the end of the visa?

Reason is that I'll be out on Koh Tao and there is not an immigration office there.

Its worth a trip to immigration to ask. One of the moderators probably knows for sure. I believe most extensions are 30 days prior.

As said you can ask when you have a valid reason but normally extensions should wait until less than 30 days remain on your stay. You have to fill out a TM.7 form with 4x6cm photo (some places may require several sets) and pay 1,900 baht.

Thanks. I had actually found those 2 documents before posting, but they are pretty terse, and I was looking for the "how" part.
