JAKARTA, INDONESIA (BNO NEWS) -- The Indonesian Navy on Tuesday said that it has agreed to expand its training and education cooperation with the U.S. Marine Corps.

According to the Antara news agency, Indonesian Navy Chief of Staff Admiral Soeparno and the new Marine Attache at the U.S. Embassy in Indonesia, Miguel A. Avila, gathered at the Indonesian Navy Headquarters in Jakarta where they reached a number of cooperation agreements.

Among several topics of discussions, the two navies agreed to conduct joint exercise operations called 'Carat,' 'Marex,' and 'Rimpac 2012,' which will be carried out in the U.S. islands of Hawaii, said Indonesia's National Defense Forces Commodore Tri Prasodjo.

In addition, Admiral Soeparno requested additional materials in their future joint exercises, which would include joint operation of submarines and minesweepers. Meanwhile, Lt. Col. Miguel A. Avila said the U.S. would push to improve cooperation between the two navies, underlining that they were already in good terms.
