BAGHDAD (BNO NEWS) -- At least 21 people were killed and scores wounded on Thursday after a bomb rocked Iraq's capital Baghdad, an Interior Ministry source said.

Xinhua news agency reported that three booby-trapped bombs exploded in a Shiite neighbourhood, leaving at least 21 dead and 107 wounded. The triple bombs exploded almost simultaneously near a popular market in Shurta al Rabia district located in southwestern Baghdad.

A source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to talk to the media that the blasts also damaged some civilian vehicles and shops nearby.

Violence has plummeted since its peak in 2006-2007 when sectarian fighting almost plunged the country into civil war, but sporadic high-profile attacks still happen.

At least 22 people were killed on Tuesday and 35 others were wounded during two bomb explosions that targeted a local governor in the south-central region of the country. The attack happened in the city of Al Diwaniya, which is the capital of Iraq's Al-QÄdisiyyah Governorate, located about 180 kilometers (112 miles) south of Baghdad.

Most of the fatal victims were police officers, according to officials.
