JAKARTA, INDONESIA (BNO NEWS) -- The number of people living in poverty in Indonesia reached over 30 million as of last March, according to a report released by the country's Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) on Friday.

The number of Indonesian people living poverty represent 12.49 percent of the country's total population at 30.02 million, which is a decrease of 0.84 percent, or approximately 1 million people, compared to the March 2010 results that had 31.02 million (13.33 percent) poor people living in the country.

The study calculated the number of people living poverty by considering those who earn below the established poverty line, which was Rp 233,740.00 ($27.34) per capita per month, up 10.4 percent compared to last year's Rp 211,726.00 ($24.77) per capita per month. According to the statistic, poor people in Indonesia earn Rp 8,000.00 (94 cents) each day.

Between March 2010 and last March, Indonesia's urban areas showed a decrease of around 50,000 people, while those in rural areas dropped by approximately 950,000.

Indonesia's rising economic growth rate during the year's first quarters stood at 6.5 percent, while average household consumption jumped by 4.5 percent.
