PUBLIC HEALTH AND AGRICULTURE MINISTRIES ASSIGNED TO TACKLE 3RD ROUND OF BIRD FLU OUTBREAKS

Prime Minister THAKSIN SHINAWATRA has assigned the Public Health Ministry and the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives to prepare to tackle a 3rd round of bird flu outbreaks.

Deputy Public Health Minister ANUTHIN CHARNWEERAKUL (อนุทิน ชาญวีรกูล) revealed after yesterday's (October 18) cabinet meeting that the prime minister has instructed the two ministries to work together to prevent the 3rd round of avian flu outbreaks. The Public Health Ministry has already made contact with India to purchase raw materials for making drugs and vaccine. There are currently about 250,000 pills in reserves. The ministry also has a policy to assist neighboring countries in order to prevent the spread of the virus into Thailand.

The deputy public health minister also said that the resignation of the Public Health Minister will not have any side effect on the progress of the work at the Ministry as guidelines, measures, and personnel have already been laid upon.
