Car bomb kills 2 police officers in eastern Iraq

BAQUBA, IRAQ (BNO NEWS) -- At least two police officers were killed in the eastern region of Iraq when a car bomb detonated against a police patrol, officials said Thursday.

The incident occurred in Baquba, the capital of Iraq's Dyala Governate, which is located some 50 kilometers (30 miles) northeast of Baghdad, when an explosive-filled vehicle blasted a police patrol, killing two officers, security sources told the National Iraqi News Agency.

In addition to the fatal victims, 13 others were wounded during the attack, several of them civilians. Among the wounded was the Emergency Police Regiment Commander.

No group had claimed responsibility of the attack, and no further information was available.
