There is a BuriramExpats forum that has info about Visa runs, perhaps they could help. I am in Prasat area, and the Chong Chom border is about 25 km from here, so less than 100 km from around the Buriram area I would assume.

Hope this helps

Unfortunately, we do not know what kind of visa he wants.Chong Chom will only get you a 15 day tourist visa, I believe, as it is only a crossing point.. Is that correct? For longer ,he will have to go to Vientiane or Sawanakhet. Go to the Consulate in either place. To answer his original question ,no there is no visa service in Buriram. YOU are it.

Wow, afarang, did I say something to upset you? A Visa run is simply an outfit than will "run you" (drive you) to a border so you can obtain a new visa. Never said they did the Visa process for you, or obtain anything for you, I just suggested he contact a forum that advertises that they DO this.

And JanAndersLarsson, thanks for jumping in with the phone number, hope you're not in trouble with afarang.

Not at all. I simply wanted clarification, There are 2 types of visa "runs". One will take your passport and do the job for you , for a fee. The other ,generally buses of one sort or the other ,will carry you to the border. The op did not say what kind of visa he wanted. I did ask will Chong Chom only issue a 15 day tourist. If he wants longer ,does he need to go to Vientiane or Sawanakhet?. To a Consulate, Also ,we do not know whereabouts in Buriram he is.No problem with me, not upset in the least

Good, no harm-- no foul, and I wasn't aware of 'Visa runs" that will take your passport. Not a good thing, methinks, I never let my passport out of my squeakie little hands.

Chong Chom accepts 90 day reports for Retirement Visas like mine so I don't have to make the 150 km one-way drive to Khorat, and if you go across the border into Cambodia, then yes it is a 15 day Tourist Visa. You are correct that the OP didn't state why he wanted a Visa run, but I have seen the ads on Buriram Expats and just tried to help.

Now just for general info, I did the 90-day report a couple weeks ago at Chong Chom, had to wake the nice Immigration gentleman up and he was none too happy...a little grumpy. He did my 90-day, but I'm thinking that the 150 km trip to Khorat to deal with the pretty girls there might be a better idea for the next one! mario299 "B)"

Would never let someone take my passport, except many years ago A lovely Indian gentleman ,used to go round all the guest houses in the Chulia street area of Penang. collect the passports ,went off to the thai consulate, and next day returned them. I have seen him with over 50 passports. I used his service for many years. Until The Consulate got not nice. I have been doing my 90 day at C.C since Kap Choeng got closed down, Never a problem, though it was much nicer when you could do it at Kap Choeng. As you could your 1 year extension.Bloody pest having to go to Korat. It is a long way.!!!!

Yes. The closing [a couple years ago] of the Kap Choeng office was quite inconvenient for those of us close enough.

Baffling, it was. As they were in the process of upgrading the grounds and buildings and then out-of-the-blue - closed!

As it is historically common for the immigration folks to change locations [throughout the country], it shouldn't have been any surpeise.

Look at the principle Korat office, for example. Changed locale 3 times in the last two years.....one retaining to the fire, etc.

Kap Choeng must have been the friendliest place to go for extensions etc......maybe thats why they closed it...when asking them how much...answer was always "up to you" regardless

I don't know if it is true or not, but I have heard it said that Korat Immigration will move out of the pottery village at the end of 2012, probably to Buriram. I really hope this is true because it will lessen the drive, but Thai Immigration is also doing monthly mobile visits to both Surin and Buriram, alternating months between the two, so it is getting better.

Kap Choeng sure was nice and easy, though!

Yes I believe you have heard right. Immigration is alleged to be moving to Buriram next year. Have not heard a firm date, but I think the location may have been set. One of the Govt. offices ,I suspect. The tragedy with visiting Buriram and Surin, is that it is ONE day every 2 months. Not exactly convenient.K.C certainly was convenient and surprisingly ,the Immigration Staff liked it ,but detest Korat.
