2 killed in plane crash in northern Philippines

PAMPANGA, PHILIPPINES (BNO NEWS) -- A Filipino pilot and his Malaysian student were killed on Friday in a plane crash in northern Philippines, police said.

ABS-CBN News reported that the victims were on board a private Cessna light aircraft when it crashed in Magalang town in Pampanga province at around 5:30 p.m. local time. According to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, the plane was in good condition when it departed from Omni Aviation Flying School at Clark Air Base around 4 p.m.

Captain Benhur Gomez, president of the Omni flying school, said in a report that the aircraft malfunctioned while it was in the air. He added that the victims, identified as Alfred Christian de Leon and Tian Yu Wong, died on the spot.

An initial investigations into the incident is ongoing.
