Hello

My thai wife's passport expires in december 2011, she was granted ILR in april 2010

We want to travel to LOS in the 1st week of Sept 2011 for 2 weeks and it is my wife's intention to renew her passport in bkk while we are there

We would be flying direct from heathrow-bkk

Will the airline prevent my wife from departing heathrow or will we have any other problems in the uk or upon arrival in bkk as my wife's passport has less than 6 months until expiry?

I can understand that she would have problems returning to the uk if she doesn't renew her passport in bkk but we have already planned for this so it shouldn't be an issue and she will return with a new passport

We are slightly concerned that we may have an issue travelling with less than 6 months til expiry on her old passport, common sense says it shouldn't be an issue but you never know ??

I'd appreciate any advice and information from members, especially members that have had a similar expericence

Thanks in advance and best wishes

She will not have any problems; she is a Thai national and so will have no problems entering Thailand, therefore the airline have no reason not to carry her.

I believe this would also be the case even if her passport had actually expired.

On a side issue, do not feel that you have to pay the exorbitant fee to transfer her ILR stamp into the new passport; you don't. Her ILR is still valid, even if the passport the stamp is in has expired. She simply carries both old and new passports.
