Computer Prices In Thailand Compared To Uk?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am considering visiting Thailand in about a month. I actually live in Bangladesh, where computers are pretty expensive. But there is not tax bringing computers back in. My comparison has always been prices in the UK (typically at online retailers like ebuyer.co.uk, scan, etc). Do any British expats know how prices compare in Thailand to the UK? If prices are higher I won't bother.

I'm after a desktop and a couple of moderately high end graphics cards.

I was going to go to Malaysia, where prices are quite a bit under UK prices. But air fares suddenly shop up to Malaysia when Air Asia stopped the Dhaka -> KL route this month.

Cheers

I would think Singapore would be the best bet.

When shopping you should also consider the price of the operating system. In the UK most computers sold include the operating system. Whereas in Thailand, it isn't.

Thailand also doesn't appear to be up to date with the latest technology.

Thailand is generally not the place to buy electronics like computers due to high import taxes that jack up the retail price many times. Other negatives exist like possibly of pirated/fake/modified software and generally not carrying the latest-and-greatest models.

I am also not in favor of buying computer in Thailand. To me seem the qualities of these products are not par to what you can get in US or Europe

If you are looking to compare prices, I use powerbuy.co.th

I bought one there and it was about $50 over the price than in Canada.

Watch the warranty issues if buying outside the country where you normally live.

Thanks very much for that link for prices. I will check it out.

I've never been to Singapore, so that might be a good option.

I had been tracking a Gigabyte P2532 gaming notebook. Still not available in the UK but I saw one in JIB last Sunday, cheaper than the European price (Germany), comes with Windows 7. I find these days because of the depreciated value of the Pound that many components are cheaper in Thailand, not all just depends. Sure there is more range in the UK but many things arrive eventually in Thailand. I bought my Gigabyte GTX460 desktop card significantly cheaper than the UK.
