Indonesia captures S. Sumatra terror suspects

2011-08-17 04:45:46 GMT+7 (ICT)

JAKARTA, INDONESIA (BNO NEWS) -- Indonesian National Police on Tuesday announced the arrest of two terrorism suspects who are thought to be behind recent bomb blasts in South Sumatra.

National Police spokesman Inspector General Anton Bachrul Alam said the two suspects, which were simply identified as AA and HA, were captured on Saturday and Monday in two different locations in South Sumatra, the Jakarta Globe reported.

The bomb attack happened in June in Lubuk Linggau of South Sumatra when the owner of the SM Supermarket, Hindra, opened a package which had been delivered to his store. The blast caused several burns to his body.

Authorities had previously said the terrorist attack was linked to Singaporean terrorist Fajar Taslim and his accomplice Sugairto, who were convicted in the 2008 bombing of a local cafe in West Sumatra and the murder of a church minister in Palembang, West Sumatra.

However, after investigations, both AA and HA were not linked to any terrorist group, and it its believed that the reason behind the attack was revenge or personal conflicts.

Anton said the two suspects were to be charged with terrorism before turning them in to local authorities as they are still investigating how they learned to make explosives.
