There isn't any prostitution in Thailand, that's illegal. Those girls are just trading sexual favors to repay loans, a straight business transaction based on the age old honored barter system.

The debts don't sound very high. What does it cost to hire the services of a bargirl, 100 to 150 baht? If the gamblers owed more than that then it would be cheaper to use a bargirl for sex.

I don't really know as I have never hired one. Just going by what I have been told, $20 AUD gets you 1/2 dozen beers, a feed and a woman in a Thai bar. I am already married so don't need to buy it.

Some female students do also pay their parents debts that way, nothing new under the sun. We all know why Truevisions flood us with nonsense games on a level that is so tragically bad that you can only gamble on the number of faulty passes, yellow cards of corrupted officials. But who cares, if the students do not gamble on football they play cards. If they cannot play cards, they go to the temple to figure out wining lottery numbers. Bottom line, it has nothing to do with football. Thaksin knew it and was the only wise man. Legalize the gambling shit and at least you can pay for the students education that way. Now the money gets lost in the pockets of the likes of Suthep and Sanan, their families and those of the men in uniform.

What the authorities should do is to go after the big fish running the illegal gambling joints for people to place bets. Most of these in Thailand are run by Singaporean Chinese and also British Blokes with the aid of top army and police guys.
