Retiree Figures, By Country

Sometime over the last two weeks there was an interesting insert in the Bangkok Post, “Diethelm Travel’s Thailand Tourism Review, 2005”. There is a lot of detailed data in this report including country-by-country statistics, but one thing that caught my eye was the reporting of the total number of retirees from the U.S.A. In 2004, “…retirees grew by 23.39% to 38,266.” (Source: Immigration Bureau, Police Department.)

The retiree figure is only given for a few countries…

Canada, grew 7.62% to 6,287.

India, grew 16.19% to 3,287.

Middle East, grew 14.83% to 2,013.

I assume these figures are based on the issuance of retirement visas, and that there are lot more people who may be in country and retired but are on various other sorts of visas?

I did try looking for similar threads/posts, without luck, and was wondering if there are other figures available regarding the total number of retirees in Thailand?

I could not find this report on the Bangkok Post website, although they do have a similar review posted from 2003.
