At the first of this month, Bangkok Bank introduced a new accident insurance program, for people age 50 - 100 years old. They call it PA 1st Senior and seem to be having promotions for it in their various Chiang Mai branch banks. For a little less than 5100 baht/year a "senior" receives accident insurance that covers hospitalization up to 60,000 baht, nursing care at home up to 20,000 baht, 1000 baht/day while you're hospitalized due to accident, life insurance of 600,000 baht and various other benefits. These benefits could go a long way in helping an older expat recover from one of the biggest causes of hospitalization in Thailand.

Unfortunately, it doesn't cover you if you're driving or riding on a motorcycle, but if you're hit by one -- you're covered.

A rep at our branch, Gae at the Kad Suan Kaew branch secured an English-language translation of their policy and after we read it, Hubby and I went and signed up for two policies today. They seem to be having some sort of special promotion during this first month and you walk away with a nice food storage container and water bottle, too.

The good news is that there actually is medical cover for motor-bike injuries if the rider/passenger suffers one or more broken bones (as I understand it).

Unfortunately the fine details are not in English so much might be lost in the translation.

Seems like a useful and relatively inexpensive accident policy. It was available to Thai nationals exclusively until Bangkok Bank saw the light earlier this month.

Cheers.

This needs to be in the Chiangmai forum!!! Nobody really looks in here. My first visit to this forum, only because a local pertinent post was moved here!!!

That looks like a good policy. What's the situation if your O/S visiting the relos? Do they payout if you have an existing policy with an O/S company?

Bangkok Bank has a major problem with the English translation of their policy on their website. If you look at the link provided by grin, you'll find a nice English-language table summarizing the features of the policy. It specifically states that you're covered if you're driving or riding a motorcyle. Yet, in detailed English-language translation of the policy customer service rep Gae gave us at the Kad Suan Kaew branch, it specifically states you aren't covered if you're riding or a passenger on a motorcyle. Since we never get on a motorcycle, it wasn't a concern for Hubby and me and we bought policies yesterday.

Now, I'm looking at our actual policy, which is in Thai. It's a test of my 5th grade Thai reading and writing skills but it looks like people age 50 - 100 aren't covered if they're driving or riding on a motorcycle. Their policies for younger people do cover motorcycle use, but not the one for people age 50 - 100.

Better get this clarified, from someone besides the customer service rep at a branch bank, if you plan to buy this policy and think it will cover you if you use a motorcycle.

If 'seniors' are interested in P.A. (and note P.A. is only for accidents) then Thai Visa Brokers can offer >75 years old a plan with a medical coverage of 45,000 Baht for just 4,800 Baht.

Obviously 45,000 Baht does not get you very far these days so we can also offer plans >150,000 Baht for medical expenses (per time !) up to the age of 80.

See para 5 of the PA 1st Senior Policy (as per link provided in Grin's post). There is cover for motorbike riders or passengers where there are broken bones.I queried this with Bangkok Bank at the time of taking the policy. The sales rep here called Bangkok (?) and confirmed that was the case as described in the brief English summary provided. What is in the Thai original policy I simply cannot say.

Cheers.

This coverage seems similar to the one offered by KBANK to the privilege card holders. I don't even know if it's offered for free or you have to pay yearly.

Let me tell you my experience. I opened a saving account at KBANK, Chang Puak Branch, last week with just my drivers license (life time). I asked for an ATM/Direct Debit Card. It cost me B400 for the first year and then B250 for each subsequent year. They gave me a card which reads "privilege member". I picked up some brochures. Later on, back in the hotel, I read this K-privilege card brochure, it seems to read some accident coverage very similar to what's described by NancyL here. I don't know if I'm covered automatically or I'll have to join by paying a fee. I left the brochure at the hotel so I can't read the details.

Does anybody know about this K-privilege card thing at KBANK? The amount I put in to open the account wasn't particularly big neither.

My GF has an account at Bangkok bank, and if she keeps a minimum of 10.000 baht in it they give her a Life Insurance policy for 100.000 baht. Well I think it's Life Insurance, my Thai isn't to good!

Yet I have a whole lot more baht in the same bank, and get zip. Go figure!
