hello all,

read through the types of visas, etc

i can't see how does one volunteer , must they get a employer to create a work visa , i want to semi-retire, want something to do while in bkk, and be free to volunteer some time, possible in a medical area.

i'm only soon to be 46, so can't do retirement visa, but would like to have ability to travel, and be based in bkk/LOS 10 months /year but have somethign to do with my time

like to hear other doing same, been in bkk for 1 month 2 x , so have some idea on expenses, would like to live on $2000/month ; including buying some kind of healthcare insurance in the monthly expenses, live somewhere BTS accessible, maybe high Sukhumwit sois, etc

cheers

No such animal as a work visa, you will need the organisation you intend volunteering for to "sponsor" you, and you will need a Non-imm B visa and a WP.

Living on THB 60,000/m in BKK could be done, but after rent/electricity/phone bills/medical insurance etc and seeing as you are looking at Sukhumvit, would suggest you would not have much left over for for "fun"

If the reason to volutnteering is to get a get access to a "long term" visa to stay, an Ed visa would most likely be easier and you could learn Thai in the process...

Actually volunteering falls under the non-O category. But yes, you would need a charity to sposor your application and get a work permit with the hlp of the charity. A lot of charities simply cna't be bothered with that and/or don't know how to go about.
