The Metropolitan Police Commissioner said yesterday that he was ready to put down in writing his explanation about Rak Prathet Thai partylist MP Chuwit Kamolvisit's comment that two gambling dens were being run near the Suthisarn and Choke Chai police stations.

Pol LtGeneral Jakthip Chaijinda said he would accept the consequences if the prime minister put this matter on the Parliament agenda and considered transferring him.

City police spokesman Pol MajGeneral Piya Uthayo said police had checked all Bangkok precincts but did not find any active gambling dens. They are now checking for dens that might have existed, he said, adding that Chuwit will be asked to provide more information and they will seek search warrants.

Meanwhile, Chuwit called on the police force yesterday to check on a gambling den on Ratchadapisek Road, the operators of which reportedly pay authorities Bt2 million a day in bribes. He also told the police that another gambling den was being operated in a new sixstorey building in Soi Choke Chai 4.

Love the man.

No doubt there are a few loose bowels in various areas and departments involved in law keeping and administration. Chuwit is in the know and always has been concerning that murky labyrinthine that constitutes the Bangkok Police department.

A classic case of poacher turned gamekeeper.

...just as there is no prostitution, brothels or happy ending massages in the whole of Thailand.

OMG there is prostitution in Thailand ?....:o

I thought there were only beaches and temples in Thailand.....:whistling:

No gambling in Bangkok: Jakthip

Who would place a bet on this statement? :whistling:

For once I agree with you samurai, a very senior police officer should know better than to say things like this. Just proves again, the severe downside of promotion by nepotism and cash, rather than promotion by displayed capability and displayed long-term outstanding performance.

Unfortunately it's not going to change anytime soon and certainly not under this government.

Wasn't T. Shinawatra the one who wanted to legalize it?

Those who benefit from bribes and black money have the highest interest that it stays illegal if people want enjoy some card games.

Why did you quote just the last line of my message? If you read the whole message it was about the capability of the police not about changing laws about gambling.

Quoting part of a message in inappropriate and against the forum rules, and you know it.

Chuwit clearly has a death wish. You don't mess with cops (especially high ranking ones) who are on the take and have no other business skills whatsoever.

:)

Funnily enough, wife & I were discussing this last night and came up the exact same conclusion. Chuwit either has a death wish, or has become delusional with his parliamentry position.

However, pissing off a "high ranking cabinet" minister is probably far more dangerous to one's health than a couple of middle ranking police colonels. :whistling:

Chuwit knows perfectly well what he is doing , he has a big file full of names of all the people who asked him bribes from davis group's massages, he holds them by the balls and everyone remember that it said so publicly while running for bangkok senator. Why do you think a massage tycoon turning into politics so succesfully didn't get shot right from the start?

he warned them that if anything happened to him the file goes public.

Ohh, i had not evil intention to falsify your post.

But your line gave me an idea how a govt could handle this problem of illegal gambling.

For once I agree with you samurai, a very senior police officer should know better than to say things like this. Just proves again, the severe downside of promotion by nepotism and cash, rather than promotion by displayed capability and displayed long-term outstanding performance.

I am not sure if we can conclude from this tiny little newspaper article to the state the Thai police allegedly is in or how this man reached his position.

Actually what are "very senior police officer" supposed to say if not to say that everything is under control and nothing bad happen? Thats what senior police officer always say.

Furthermore there is maybe an ongoing investigation where he don't want reveal the details.

Police Chief Firm on Ridding City of Gambling Dens

The police chief has ordered further investigation into the alleged operation of a gambling den in Bangkok raised by an outspoken Opposition MP during the new government's policy statement address.

National Police Chief, Police General Wichein Podposri is said to be unhappy with the Metropolitan Police Bureau's report suggesting that there are no gambling dens in operation in Bangkok, which contradicts evidence raised by Rak Thailand Party leader Chuwit Kamolwisit during his government's policy debate.

Police Inspector General, Police General Sathaporn Laothong is designated to oversee the panel's work, and the panel is given seven days to forward its findings to Wichein.

Meanwhile city police's spokesman, Police Major General Piya Uhthayo told the press that the investigation suggested that no gambling den is operating in the areas under the jurisdiction of the eight police stations, with names starting with "S," as Chuwit claimed.

However, Piya admitted that his agency's investigators have not gone through the full version of the video clip yet so they will ask for more information and footage from the MP.

The spokesman said there is still no information suggesting two police generals are involved in the den as alleged.

A more thorough investigation has already been launched in every single district.

He maintained that action will be taken against the chief of any police station that fails to crack down on illegal activities in its area.

There's more than one. And they are located all over Thailand as well. I like Chuwit. Tells it like it is. But he may have gone a bit too far on this one. Remember Sondhi?

This police commissioner really went out on a limb on this one. Crazy.

Oh he's a smart fellow all right, but like too many others, he is no longer satisfied with wealth alone. He wants power. It doesn't really matter what he knows or what files he has if he isn't breathing. The public will quickly forget, no matter what comes out. There are much darker tastier secrets out there for any one 'file' to command too much attention for long. I'm personally hoping they don't take him out.

Now listen here . If the police say there are no gambling dens in Bangkok well that's it , after the complaint of a huge one that had been operating in Pratunam which the local police conveniently could not find a couple of years back but the media could , there has not been any others open since.

I hope Chuwit keeps this up ,maybe it will keep them on their toes

Well arn't you...sorrry, the new government responsible to uphold the law??? so gambling is not the governments responsibility ??.................. or fair play ??? ........... Do all institutions run a separate enterprise as the police appear to do. I've yet to see any post that you wrote that says anything wrong with the new government and it's antics-not forgetting the pre election run up. I see something wrong with that, as an honest person it would be nice if once in a while you spoke about the wrongs going on.
