webfact Posted August 24, 2011 Share Posted August 24, 2011 No gambling in Bangkok: Jakthip By The Nation The Metropolitan Police Commissioner said yesterday that he was ready to put down in writing his explanation about Rak Prathet Thai partylist MP Chuwit Kamolvisit's comment that two gambling dens were being run near the Suthisarn and Choke Chai police stations. Pol LtGeneral Jakthip Chaijinda said he would accept the consequences if the prime minister put this matter on the Parliament agenda and considered transferring him. City police spokesman Pol MajGeneral Piya Uthayo said police had checked all Bangkok precincts but did not find any active gambling dens. They are now checking for dens that might have existed, he said, adding that Chuwit will be asked to provide more information and they will seek search warrants. Meanwhile, Chuwit called on the police force yesterday to check on a gambling den on Ratchadapisek Road, the operators of which reportedly pay authorities Bt2 million a day in bribes. No doubt there are a few loose bowels in various areas and departments involved in law keeping and administration. Chuwit is in the know and always has been concerning that murky labyrinthine that constitutes the Bangkok Police department. A classic case of poacher turned gamekeeper. For once I agree with you samurai, a very senior police officer should know better than to say things like this. Just proves again, the severe downside of promotion by nepotism and cash, rather than promotion by displayed capability and displayed long-term outstanding performance. Funnily enough, wife & I were discussing this last night and came up the exact same conclusion. Chuwit either has a death wish, or has become delusional with his parliamentry position. But your line gave me an idea how a govt could handle this problem of illegal gambling. I am not sure if we can conclude from this tiny little newspaper article to the state the Thai police allegedly is in or how this man reached his position. Actually what are "very senior police officer" supposed to say if not to say that everything is under control and nothing bad happen? Thats what senior police officer always say. National Police Chief, Police General Wichein Podposri is said to be unhappy with the Metropolitan Police Bureau's report suggesting that there are no gambling dens in operation in Bangkok, which contradicts evidence raised by Rak Thailand Party leader Chuwit Kamolwisit during his government's policy debate. Police Inspector General, Police General Sathaporn Laothong is designated to oversee the panel's work, and the panel is given seven days to forward its findings to Wichein. Meanwhile city police's spokesman, Police Major General Piya Uhthayo told the press that the investigation suggested that no gambling den is operating in the areas under the jurisdiction of the eight police stations, with names starting with "S," as Chuwit claimed. However, Piya admitted that his agency's investigators have not gone through the full version of the video clip yet so they will ask for more information and footage from the MP. The spokesman said there is still no information suggesting two police generals are involved in the den as alleged. A more thorough investigation has already been launched in every single district. If the police say there are no gambling dens in Bangkok well that's it , after the complaint of a huge one that had been operating in Pratunam which the local police conveniently could not find a couple of years back but the media could , there has not been any others open since. Well arn't you...sorrry, the new government responsible to uphold the law??? so gambling is not the governments responsibility ??.................. or fair play ??? ........... Do all institutions run a separate enterprise as the police appear to do. I've yet to see any post that you wrote that says anything wrong with the new government and it's antics-not forgetting the pre election run up.
