SOFIA (BNO NEWS) -- Two people were killed on Tuesday evening when a small plane crashed upon landing in the Bulgarian Black Sea resort of Primorsko, the government confirmed on Wednesday.

A spokesperson for the Bulgarian Transport Ministry said a pilot and a passenger were killed when the Cirrus SR22 aircraft crashed while attempting to land at the small private airport in Primorsko. Both victims were identified as Bulgarian nationals.

The runway at Primorsko airport is 910 meters (2,985 feet) long and 300 meters (984 feet) wide, and is fit for small planes of up to 10-12 seats. "Upon impact, the aircraft ignited, and the people on it were killed," the spokesperson said.

The Bulgarian Transport Ministry has launched an investigation into the accident.
