Just wanted to ask if Makro in Bangkok is open to the general public and if there are any specific rules re membership.?

I know in the UK you have to show trade invoices but i think their membership policy varies from country to country.

Thanks

No the general public can use it.We have a card that we share around the family.I think you will need to provide proof of name & address so take what you think is appropriate and they will issue you with a card. There is no cost. At times we have forgotten to take the card and so go to the front desk and say so and they just give us a slip of paper with a temporary number on it.They don't cross check our membership or anything.

You don't need any kind of membership to shop at Makro. I shop there once a month, and have never filled out anything or signed up for anything.

But you should be aware that you can only pay with cash or a Makro credit card (issued by CITIbank N.A.)

In all the Makros I've ever been to in Thailand (including Bangkok), if you don't have a card you need to go up to the customer service counter before heading to the checkout. You fill out this piece of paper with your name and your phone number. Then they give you a paper slip that you hand over at the register when you check out.

No need to sign up for anything or even be truthful on the little form. They don't check anything. It is a formality only. As was mentioned previously it is cash only. Be prepared for this as whenever I go the bill usually runs around 10,000 baht, and it is very embarrassing to have to run to the ATM.

Where is the nearest MAKRO to central Bangkok or the BTS, MRT, or Airport Rail Link?

I know there is one way out in Bangkok Noi (#40 bus) and Sri Nakarin somewhere near Phrawat. Any others??

We use the one near to us on Ram Intra Road, not too far from the airport if you are down this way. There is not requirement for any form filling or anything else to shop there, just go in, get what you want and go to the check out. They will ask if you have a card but just say no and they will carry on checking you out. Remember also that there are no carrier bags given to put your stuff in so just something to think about.

are they doing house/home delivery, and if so, is there a cost and what is the minimum purchase to use this service ?

been once to the one at Bangkapi, but that's many years ago....

I shop in Makro nearish to Chong Nonsi twice a week. No membership or card needed, must pay in cash (but I do that anyway), and no bags supplied. You can take the number 77 bus from chong nonsi down Naratiwas (or something) road. They don't do home deliveries (it's a CASH AND CARRY!)

Veggies and fruit are dirt cheap and the frozen meat good quality. Bakery is also good. Real coffee is also good and cheap - they used to sell Zolito beans but it's only some other ground stuff now - but it's good value. Avoid weekends as the local traders get stocked up on their produce there. Dead quiet on Mondays.

Just as a matter of interest guys, does being a member of Makro entitle you to any benefits?...i shop at the one in Pattaya, usually once a week and i am sure i have on certain items seen two prices, although not much, perhaps a baht or two difference and have wondered if those prices are for members and non members

The only benefit of applying for a card is you get sent the monthly magazine, quite handy for spotting special offers, but offers are available to everyone, not just members. The dual price tags show the price excluding VAT to help businesses, I guess. I just shop at Makro with my family and find that the benefit of slightly lower prices are often outweighed by having to purchase everything in bulk, I end up spending way too much.
