Hi there folks,

Could anyone advise me on how much i should be paying for a reinforced concrete floor to be laid (including cost of materials ).The surface area is 23 meter x 15.5 meter and thickness of 15 cm.I have already had one quote of 145,000 baht and am in the process of waiting from some more quotes from other builders. Many thanks for any help/advice.

54m3 of concrete is 86.000 - 120.000 baht depending on quality, and still in truck. How to pour? Pump? Crane?

katabeachbum to be honest with you i am a total novice to the building lark.I am a metal worker by trade. The floor is for a pig shed and so the concrete will have to be of a high grade because of the hard snouts and tendency to try and root by the pigs, damp proofing and damp barrier won't be an issue seeing as though it will be a wet floor. The re bar i was thinking of using 1/2 inch. Not even sure if we can get a cement truck onto the area of land where our shed is so it may be mixed by cement machine on site.

cheap build, not load carrying floor, I would do a cheaper floor. 10cm thick, not 15. Roads are build with 15cm. So 10cm, its 37m3 at 1900 baht for 280 grade = 70k baht for readymixed

280 quality, not cheap but strong for wear and tear and cracks. Postdistance and no load carrying tells me i would use 3-4mm wire mesh 10 meters long, 2-2,5 meters beam. good enough for 25 ton roads. cant recall mesh prices

120k? all together, readymixed or mixed at site. Mixed at site, make sure the mix becomes close to 280, by counting cementbags and loads of stones

if the op is not likely to drive a truck or..over the floor he could probably save some money by reducing the centre area thickness and no need for reinforcement.. bedded on rubble or similar...often done in NA basement floors .

Might want to consider some channel drains with steel grid covers if it's for pigs?..maybe keep it dryer and ease of cleaning?..don't forget the sand in the concrete mix!! ..lol

Thanks for the advice David,i have got the drainage, run off and septic tanks about sorted. It's just the flooring i was having a bit of grief with and the price.think i will stay with the rebar though seeing as there will be a lot of heavy sow weight going on to the floor.but thanks for the help anyway

For concrete floors in houses in the Uk, thickness is 100mm/ 3 inches.

No need for re-bar if the edges are retained by brick or block work. Rebar is generally used if the area is going to have vehicles going over it or it is retaining something.

Concrete prices are depending on area to area .

My area it is around 1600 baht /m3 . Lowest strenght ( 150 ksc or steng ) to highest ( 280) is a difference of 150 baht / m3 . 1600 baht/m3 is the top price .

for 10cm it is around 58000 baht

for 15cm it is around 86000 baht .

Both prices are without steel and without work . Work is easy when it is only the pouring thing and some preparation work . Let's say you need 4 workers 2 days ( 1 days preparation and 2nd day the pouring ) so anywhere between 1600 baht and 3200 baht total ( 3200 tops as is would mean 400baht per worker per day !! ) .

Steel prices hmm , if it is for a stable , no big reinforcement needed . 2 hun steel together with the net type thing is plenty imho ( 2 hun every m or so ) . I did forget the price of it but for that kind of area i would expect around 20 to 30k ( i can look it up if you want ) .

Now , handmix . Handmix is cheaper and i mean quite a lot cheaper . The problem with handmix for that size is the quantity . It is simply to much to handle with a small group and with 2 cement mixers . Mixing 40m3 or more is a immense task and not to be underestimated . If you want to know how much cheaper . I thought it was around 30 or 50% cheaper so let's say 1000 per m3 . The cement trucks can go on various grounds and if somehow possible i would go for this route .

Your price of 145k , depending on area and what is used ( how many reinforcement and is it a complete price etc ) might be a fair quote . I Can certainly imagine for a complete land preparation , laying steel , formwork , pouring etc till finish being somewhere around that area ( Isaan vs islands are quite huge differences in price ) .

Thanks Mooner, i have been advised by quite a few people now that 10 cm would be more than enough and my wife is getting new quotes now.

Thanks sezze,i think that it is going to end up being handmixed due the lack of access to the site and also with all the rain we have /are having it has made the ground very soft.plus they told me that the cement is good for two hours but it will take an hour to get to our place, only leaving one hour to pour..But anyway many thanks for your help and advise.

OK , i'm only trying to help .

If you are going with the handmix thing , make sure you do have enough workers as this is a extremely hard job . As per m3 i think it was somewhere of 5 tons of material ( remember your water supply !!! ) . The calculation of how may m3 needed is easy and the amount of sand/cement/water is easy to find on internet . 2 hours looks long till you see the amount you need mixing and put in place .
