September 4, 201114 yr With the best will in the world, the trouble is that most dive guides and instructors here have 'worked their way through the PADI courses' with the sole intention of earning a living once they had the necessary qualifications. Ergo they have no 'real' experience and if anything goes horribly wrong.... I experienced this once in the Maldives - an 'experienced () diver missed the shelf and the rest of us looked to the dive guide.... Once it became obvious he had no idea what to do I went down, grabbed the bloody diver, and brought her up to the rest of us. I was not happy either with the diver or the bloody dive guide.
