Mirth
They would simply deny and argue that such things do not exists in Thailand and foreigners are to be blamed for their lack of understsnding to their advanced thinking and culture. People should be handing out flyers about all the Thai scams and dangers to people boarding planes bound to Thailand. Maybe some organization in our home country could be encouraged to do it. They seem to support all kind of crazy idea's already. Can you imagine the loss of face if something like that would happen. It would be great to see the Thai government wiggle and discredit this. Too bad most organization in our home countries would never help their own citizen in such a way. Wonder if it could lead to libel claims if it was done in the perspective home countries opposed to Thailand. A nice leaflet exposing the double prices / ripp-offs and scams plus dangers of Thailand. Ah one can only dream

A lot of Thai's seem to think that its okay to screw foreigners, personally I always enjoy watching my mother destroy the Thai's who try to overcharge us because we look too Western, they shit themselves and begin apologising like crazy when she starts laying into them in Thai

BigRick
You want a good buffet at a great price got to Arnoma hotel across the street from Centra world. The place is called "The Buttercup" its where I go to get my western food fix. The food is great they do a different theme every other day so one day it could be German the next Indian. The price can't be beat at 295(+vat+grat its ok the staff is really nice) 11am-2pm. I also like it because I can take my girlfriend there and she has plenty to eat. You would never think something as simple as creme brula would be so tasty to a Thai woman. Its location for people watching is great the biggest mall in Bangkok is across the street. I did get a chuckle about the over eating. I saw this women(Thai maybe Philippine) load up!!! I mean get me 5 to go boxes after I stuffed my face with enough food to feed Somalia load up. Any time tempura prawns hit the deck you had to beat her to them or she would take the whole tray(No sh*t). We are familiar with the staff and I could tell by the look on their face even they thought she went a little to far. It may not have the view of Baiyoi tower but the foods great the price is right and the place is well maintained.
GreenSnapper
Is that scam really confirmed? I never remember the price to be 550B. Last time I went there it was around 650B. 1100B would be outrageous for medium quality food. You can make online bookings at their website, BTW. Why is it acceptable at national parks? very good question If you had read further you would have found some very good answers. dave111223
I've been to the Baiyooke Buffet a few times and each time only paid about 500 each (maybe 550 i forget) and that was without any reservations; just a bunch of foreigners walking in. Maybe this dual pricing is a recent thing? Or maybe a misunderstanding by the OP?
Atmos
Except if you come from a Country like the UK,where the same price is paid by the Iocal Indiginous Population, as the Tourists or Overseas Visitor, anything less than this is Known as Racialism! and that's the main reason Expats and Visitors to Thailand do not agree with duel pricing. ahem . . . Wales subsidises Welsh uni students so they pay no more than £3000 in fees per year Scotland's Edinburgh Uni likely to pass rules for the same tomorrow - a Scotland uni student will pay £2895 per year, but if born in England, Wales, NI, the fee will be £9000 per year. 23,000 English students had hoped that by travelling north they would get educated for considerably less cost than if they applied to an English university. The Scottish Government insists the fees are lawful and based on domicile rather than nationality. source Edited September 5, 2011 by Atmos

But that is about a government subsidising, to quote you, education facilities for it's own nationals, not a business apparantly charging a higher rate for foreigners so they can make more profit. Buy the same token it would seem that if foreigners are domiciled in Thailand they should pay the Thai price for their dinner.

MAJIC
"Dual pricing for anything other than national parks etc is unacceptable" Sorry, I'm new here. Why is it acceptable at national parks? For the same reason why local residents in many western countries have free access or reduced prices to local attractions (e.g. state parks in the USA, musuems etc.) It is part of the social contract whereby the locals either directly or indirectly subsidize the facilities. Two tiered pricing in Thai restaurants is unacceptable, although I am sympathetic as it seems some of the foreigners "eat for two" whereas the slim Thais do not have the same tendancy to over eat. C'mon you know the Thai's will eat and eat and eat,we all can never understand where they put it. Correct! And if there was ever be an Eating Event in the Olympics,my money would be on Thailand to get Gold,Silver and Bronze Medals.

bkkjames
You wonder why more and more restaurants are putting in time limits-cause the locals are renowned for their ability to graze non-stop for hours on end. Accepted behaviour in a hotel type buffet would be 1.5 to 2 hours max-the locals feel that if a buffet runs from 630-10pm, they can sit there at the table chimming this and that while devouring 4kgs of smoked salmon. mca
So I have linked this topic in a complaint email to them, let them know how you really feel...... We ended up at the Landmark, very nice and with a Hong Kong bank card 50% off.... done. Baiyoke Sky,...tsk tsk!! Oz I hope you made the booking though and then didn't turn up so that they had an empty table. Maybe we should all do that, call to make a booking on the same day using the name Smith and leave them with an empty restaurant for the day? They'd most probably panic with 50 reservations under the name " Smith" thinking that guy from " The Matrix" would turn up and start duplicating himself.
