New Thai Film Celebrates Akira Kurosawa's Rashomon

Following the success of Chua Fa Din Salai, Mom Luang Phanthewanop Thewakul released another feature inspired by Akira Kurosawa called “U Mong Pa Meung”.

Film buffs and members of the press flocked to the press conference where a screenplay written by famed script writer Mom Ratchawong Kurkrit Pramote was announced.

The film is inspired by and adapted from Akira Kurosawa's classic Rashomon and will be made into a full-length feature called U Mong Pa Meung, directed by Mom Luang Phanthewanop Thewakul.

The star-studded cast including Ananda Everingham, Mario Maurer, Off Pongpat, and Dom Hetrakul also attended the conference, with only Ploy Chermarn missing, due to conflicting schedules.

The production team and cast explained that each line in the film is inspired by Buddhist teachings and can be applied to everyday life.

The film is also a celebration of the 101st anniversary of Akira Kurosawa, the first Asian director to win an Oscar.

U Mong Pa Meung is an era piece set in Lana Thailand 700 years ago.

A mysterious murder took place, and the story is told from the eyes of three witnesses including a young monk, a woodcutter, and an undertaker.

The film has been in the pipeline for more than ten years and was put on the shelf until now.

U Mong Pa Meung will hit theaters nationwide on September 8.
