PRACHINBURI, Sept 11 - Soldiers and emergency workers on Sunday retrieved the body of a French tourist who was swept away and drowned by raging floodwaters here last night while crossing a waterway at Prachin Buri's Pai Khao Lam waterfall amid heavy rain.

The team worked all night but suspended their search at times due to poor weather until recovering the body at about 10am Sunday.

The dead man was identified as Remi Huet, 34. His body was found under a pile of bamboo with his rucksack and crash helmet. His body was brought to a military hospital for medical autopsy pending collection by his family.

Mr Huet reportedly visited the waterfall with three friends, including Chana Prasitthiwej, a Thai who told police that he was the victim's business partner. They had been cycling and stopped at the waterfall where the Frenchman was the last person crossing the waterway.

His friends tried to save his life but to no avail as the strong current quickly swept his body away. They then called for help from nearby villagers and the local authorities. (MCOT online news)

... Don't mean to be nasty but..

...a Thai who told police that he was the victim's business partner. They had been cycling and stopped at the waterfall where the Frenchman was the last person crossing the waterway...

Would you go cycling near a waterfall in heavy rain?

Those of you who have so far responded should be ashamed of yourselves! A young man has died in apparently tragic circumstances and all you can do is raise for better words, totally irrelevant comments.

RIP to the victim and condolences to his family.

Young folks die tragically everyday worldwide, but concentrated media attention is obscure.

Thai newspaper ThaiRath has a report (in Thai, pics as attached) suggests they were mountainbiking and had a river-crossing on foot, where the water suddenly rose very quickly to chest deep, washing this man downstream, he was eventually found 2km away.

Can easily see how this could happen, maybe five minutes earlier and they'd have been well on their way on the other side when the rush of water came down.

RIP, sad for this man's friends and family.

I met Rémi on Thaivisa about two years ago. His screen name here was lunatic02. We then proceeded to become business partners, and friends.

He loved to go biking with his friends, I guess they got surprised by the fast rising water and/or did not assess the risk of flood correctly.

He will certainly be missed by his Thai and Expat friends.

RIP Rémi.

First, condolences to you...as well as Remi's family and other friends. I am from the Southwest USA. Flash floods are a HUGE problem there. Things like this happen all the time.

Second, please keep this thread civil. Show some respect and NO comments on moderation. We're trying to keep conspiracy theories and misc BS out of this thread.

They all crossed the stream and the current increased dramatically and Rémi was swept away and then fell from the wf further down.

The guys who were with Rémi did everything they could to save him but unfortunately current was too strong. So please show a bit of respect for Rémi, his family and friends who are devastated and don't base your 'comments' or suspicions on an article where the so-called

journalist/reporter can't even do the math to calculate the victim's age. Rémi just turned 28 a few of weeks ago!

RIP and my sincerest condoleances to his family and friends who witnessed this drama!
