WE ALL KNOW that quality exercise equipment purchased locally in Thailand in ridiculously expensive...there is a lot of quality stuff available on the internet, the question being will they ship to Thailand?

SO WHADDA WE GONNA DO ABOUT IT?...please share you experiences ordering exercise equipment on the internet; selection, shipping arrangements, etc...was it difficult assembling the bastid once you got it here?

IMPROVE YER HEALTH NOW!...and cheaply, I got high blood pressure and gotta do something about it...just like many of you folks I don't want to die so lets hear your responses please...

I just spent a delightful afternoon playing with my 8 y.o. niece and she would thank you too as she would not like her uncle tutsi to die soon either :(...

Tutsi,

What kind of equipment do you want ?

Weightlifting stuff is actually affordable.

A spinning bike combined with a timer for HIT can be good too and is not that expensive.

hey Rob...I'm looking for an exercise bike that can handle my weight (about 230lbs) without too much in the way of electronics that I can use reliably on a daily basis for 30 minute aerobic/cardio exercise...there seems to be a big gap in Thailand between what's available at tescos and the high end costing huge baht...

I'm 61 y.o. and not looking to add any bulk to my withered flesh so would pass on any suggestion for weights but do you know of any place in Thailand that offers a good quality exercise bike for a reasonable price say around USD300 equivalent?

all the best

SO WHADDA WE GONNA DO ABOUT IT?

There is a real easy option out there. Do body weight workouts where the weights are yourself. You don't need any equipment to speak of, a gym, or even any weights for a great workout. Below is an example routine and there are tougher and easier workouts to suit ones needs:

Don't be fooled by such simplicity, body weight workouts can be very tough, packing cardio and strength into a single routine and they are often used by MMA and special forces types.

that looks great, if one is able bodied to begin with...I should explain my situation, I just had an 'incident' related to high blood pressure and uncontrolled diabetes where I fell a number of times and banged myself up bad, now off work and at home to rest and recover for however long it takes to be able to function again...I'm gonna haveta lose weight and exercise and I thought that an exercise bike would be a good way to get in to it slowly..

thanks for the suggestion, anyway...much appreciated...

I got a grant sports multi station can't say i think its good equipment. But that is probably what i am used too.

Spinning bikes / exercise bikes are not expensive and widely available. So those can be bought.

Tutsi,

Those bikes are available everywhere. They are not that much more expensive as in the west. You have them in most big malls in Bkk.

A little bit of weight training might help you. Its not all about gaining bulk, its also about keeping your muscles and bones strong. You don't need much for weightlifting. Also the body weight exercises mentioned are real good.

Weight training or body weight training and cardio (bikes ect) supplement each other.

thanks for all the replies,folks...I should get down to BKK and tour the shopping malls...locally here in Suphan there aint much, it all looks like junk and can't support more than 100kg...gotta wait until I'm better first; the best I can do presently is shuffle about the house with me folks to look after me...the BP is responding to the medication but the initial falling down on tile floors back in my accommodation in VN busted me up big time...

anyone got any suggestions on where to look locally (BKK) or any local internet links?

Hi Tutsi I am in the market for a new treadmill.Having looked at the TV direct website with all their "beautiful people"(who don't actually appear to be Thai by the way) I am hesitant to say they would be built for strength and duress. I bought a treadmill about 5 years ago and used it virtually everyday(Apart from 1 year when I was out of Thailand)I had to get the motor replaced after a year and since then had something go wrong each year. Now this time it is going to cost me mega baht to get it fixed so am thinking to cut my losses and buy a new one with a brand new guarantee,I will be looking in the next few days or so here in BKK so will let you know what I find.My body dimensions aren't far off yours so will be looking for something that can go the distance. Will have a look at the bikes as well.Cheers Rae

hey Rae...thanks for the info...I note that the low end bikes at tescos will only support 100kgs so capacity and dimensions are important and the western websites all have this info; ideally one could try out the product before purchasing but not possible with a mail order arrangement...

looking forward to hearing what you find out...

Weight is less an issue for the bikes then it is for treadmills and other kinds of cardio stuff. I can take a picture of my spinning bike if you like its strong enough for sure but might be a bit too expensive.

The bike would suit you fine! I used to be 110 kilos ... 220lbs in real money and I would have fit nicely on it ;)

hi, folks... to update we were in the 'new' shopping mall in Suphanburi (the one with Tops supermarket in the basement) where I had had seen exercise equipment in the past and lo; a new Sportsworld outlet had opened with a range of stuff...ended up buying a Proteus PEC-4188 bike 'on special' for thb9999 which is about what I wanted to pay...it's got magnetic resistance, hand adjusted and a simple LCD display with no 'programs'...pretty much what I wanted...good for up to 125kgs body weight...

gonna start out slowly to work up to 30mins moderate exercise 3x per week; check BP before and after, etc...should be the right way to go about it for blood pressure problems...any suggestions?

btw, I found that it is essential to try the equipment yourself before you buy...there was a big difference comfort wise between the bike that I bought and the next more expensive model...
