Buddhism Forum

Featured Replies

I know someone is looking for Buddhism blogs but I am looking for a forum that people can recommend that is just on Buddhism. I am hesitant to post my obscure philosphical questions on here just to get blasted by people who probably shouldn't have opened the topic to start with.

Can anyone recommend a good Buddhism forum?

Dhamma Wheel - one of the biggest

Dhamma Wheel - one of the biggest

------------------------------

Notice the r in there (dharmawheel not dhammawheel). They are two different sites but affiliated I believe.

They have different orientations...go to both and pick the one that fits your particular style.

I think it must be .net and they both have exactly the same set up. Confusing. Any quick run down of what the basic difference is?

Oops.

That's what happens when you're in too much of a hurry.

Yes, they are both .NET not .COM. sites.

The difference is basically:

dharmawheel discribes itself as A Buddhist discussion forum on Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism

dhammawheel is A Buddhist discussion forum on the Dhamma of the Theravada

So take your pick.

:D

ok thanks a lot.

Just have to decide the best one now. I have general Buddhism Q's not specifically Thai Theravada Buddhism.

I like Tree Leaf. It's a Japan-based, but Western Zen forum in the Soto tradition. To a visitor it may look like Buddhism Lite, but I enjoy its humour and self-mockery. For example, this is one of the senseis' responses to a discussion on meditation:

That lineage of simplicity to which we belong has a taste of fresh water, deep woods and nice clouds cruising along.

Meditation is something for spiritual VIPs and inspired egos.

All we do is to sit anywhere like fools and cats.

It sounds simple and very childish and we all know that nothing can be more difficult.

This response attracted some criticism from one or two members. They're quite free to critique the teachers - respectfully, of course.

I'm currently listening to a series of lectures by John Peacock on Buddhism before Theravada.

John describes the historical Buddha as often making jokes and puns.

The humor you illustrate fits perfectly into how the real Buddha may have viewed life.

ok thanks a lot.

You might end up getting different answers depending on who you ask and the question posed.

Some will point you to dharmawheel ( Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism), whilst others will point you to dhammawheel (the Dhamma of the Theravada).

The two can be considered as diametrically opposed on a number of points.

But then he can go to Joseph Goldstein's One Dharma to see the underlying unity of the dhamma. :)

Sorry but I've had to remove the links per the following forum rule.

10) Not to post commercial spam or to post any promotional links, URLs or addresses to a member's own business or that would lead people to your site. Not to post URL links to other forums . Not to flood, post commercial or for-profit advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, and similar solicitations.

(The rule has to do with ad agreements, as I understand it. If you have questions, contact admin.)

It should be easy to find them by googling the forum titles.
