not sure where this goes...

I am so screwed..... got a good paying job in India October 2 - 10 but just found out I cannot go because India has a 6 month validity rule and my passport expires in mid November. Does anyone know about the possibilities of getting an emergency renewal (in Canada you can get 24 hour) in Bangkok at the embassy here? Im assuming no because our embassy is so evil but..... thought I would ask anyway. Thankyou.

It will take you 5 working days to get your Indian visa too and without a Thai work permit your only option will be a tourist visa :(

The IATA database only says the passport must be valid upon arrival.

That cant be right Mario, that also says you dont need a visa and you do.... both things wrong. :( But I wish it was true

It is from the IATA datebase that airlines use to check upon enry requirements for different nationalities.

You cna check it here: http://www.delta.com/planning_reservations/plan_flight/international_travel_information/visa_passport_information/index.jsp

Normally it is very reliable.

I did check and saw a page similar to the one you showed me but it also stated no visa required. Anyway, Ive been reading all over the net and everyone including the indian embassy here in Bangkok says I need a 6 month passport validity. Im so sad :( This job was going to save my bacon.

I got a replacement passport in 1 week from application to EMS delivery to my door, but it was for a passport that was stolen. You need a police report for this. I found the embassy to be very helpful in this case.

Just renewed mine 2 months ago, it takes 15 working days from time of application, so you're looking at 3+ weeks, also EMS delivered to my house. Ther're taking a lot longer than they used to, and if you don't have a guaranteor, you now need to provide 4 references instead of the 2 previously.

Just about any country requires at least 6 months validity, especially if you're going to work and going through work permit hassles

I assume you are Canadian, but ya the flight to the job is in less than a week so its not going to happen, not to mention needing the actual passport to apply for the visa which takes at least a few days. I read they have a 24 hour renewal for emergencies in Canada but that seems to be the only place you can do that. Not abroad. This is just about the wors thing that could happen to me now. I can't believe how my luck has been so terrible lately lol, the universe is determined to keep me down right now.

I had to pay a 3 week overstay for this reason.

My visa was expiring in 2 days, and there wasn't a country in the region i could fly to.

As for calling the Canadian Embassy , dont make me laugh. However once you are there things improve.

I must say the woman behind the bullet proof glass is excellent.

By all accounts time at the embassy renewing a passport in BKK is worlds better than doing it in Canada -- i have heard it many times from pleased punters on their way out the door.
