Non Commercial Importing Of 2Nd Hand Espresso Machine

Featured Replies

Hi,

I want to buy an espresso machine, a very good one, but prices here in TH are sky high due to the 45% import tax on those non commercial machines.

However, I picked up somewhere, that, if one brings in a 2nd Hand device for non commercial / home use from abroad, that there will be no tax / import tax on it, as they (the authorities) can not value it.

Sorry for my poor English, hope I explained it right, but, can anyone confirm this?

Not that I am keen on carrying a 20 kg espresso machine hand luggage around the world, but if it safe the bucks, I am in...

:)

On my last visit, I brought a Nespresso Coffee machine (small, 4kg of weight) as hand luggage and just walked through customs... even though they did know it (as they do X-ray all luggage when you leave int. arrival), they did'nt say a thing... however, speaking of 20kg... this is more of a business machine you are looking for, right?

Sounds Heavy-Duty.. :cheesy:

No, it is a single group stainless steel thingy, those are always around 20 kg. Well I guess one can use it commercial, but it is not really meant to be.

Central and other often have decent machines on sale for example the Gaggia Brera was on sale for 35000thb which is the same as the US price. And gaggia Platinum swing for around 45000thb.

Thx, but I am not looking for a GAGGIA or SAECO type of machine, I want one of those stainless steel blocky beasts. AROMATHAILAND and GREATEARTH here in BKK have such but again damned much more expensive than back home.

But coming back to my initial question: Import taxes on used / second hand things for non commercial use in Thailand. anybody?

  • 1 month later...

A good stainless ELECTROLUX machine costs only 10000 Thb here, but carry if you want.

And the one who said that customs pass all luggages through Xray didn't understand the whole story :-)

(airport xray agents are not customs and they don't look for Espresso machines...)
