'Open Mic' Events In Town?

Featured Replies

Recently I've been going to the ‘open mic’ that is held Monday nights (from 8:30 to 11:30), at “DET 5” bar (not sure where they got the name), on Soi 8 by Nana BTS station. Quite a few guys (including me), get up and play/sing with acoustic/electric guitars. Pretty fun.

Anybody know of any other open mic events around town? And/or ‘jam nights?’

Be careful...these get raided on a frequent basis. And the fees for a "get out of jail" card are fairly high. The one here in Pattaya, which had an "agreement" with immigration was shut down this week after a visit by 4 guys who spent the night at the bar keeping a watch on who was playing...the weekly event has been permanently cancelled.

You can also research Chiang Mai. Quite a few problems up there...

Why do the police raid them ?

Most musicians here don't have work permits. So, it's illegal to be onstage...as crazy as that sounds...even though none of the musicians are getting paid.

See a few guys in Siam Discovery on the 6th floor quite regularly.

Do you mean playing in a restaurant/bar up there? Can't remember what's up there. Farang? Thai? Like a regular group, or open mic/jammers??

no there is an area around on the 6th floor next to the new cafe up there, they seem to come most nights and play a few songs, seems organised but not entirely sure. Mix of farangs and thais.
