Someone mentioned that 80% of this forum has 30k or less per month as income. I cant believe this at all. I think its much higher. I am just being curious trying to prove him wrong. I seen high rollers here so option 8 should get plenty of attention

I got enough income, but i save most of my income. I safe more then i spend. Wife brings in money too and im living outside the expensive area of bkk. So life is easy here.

Its not all about making money its also about not spending too much. I know people who no matter how much income they have they will still spend too much.

But this was all about income. Seems that the poster who said 80% of people at 30k a month was wrong. Ok if we scrap the bragging factor people might make less then in the poll but still more then the 30k he quoted.

I'd be very, very surprised if close to 10% of westerners here had less than 30k coming in every month.

I'd guess the number would probably be around 2%.

Probably less than that on this forum as they likely couldn't afford a computer or internet connection.

People living and earning their money in Thailand?

This is not meant to be sarcastic but there's a lot of guys who earn overseas and may live/stay here for the best part of the year.

Sure they will be in the high bracket for sure especially the oil guys that are around here.

Dual income... and never paid taxes:

- Rental money for my flats -Brussels & London- paid to a family trust in Luxembourg ;

- Consulting fees for missions around South-East Asia -except Thailand!- paid to my offshore company in Hong Kong

I have no idea as it depends on how much I earn and that constantly changes.

Also, I'm afraid that that when the guy who employs the multi-lingual, stock tip gardener tries to use the poll he will be frustrated by the low amounts that are represented. Maybe he can just tell us how much income he earns in a regular post :o.

I'm assuming this is household (ie Husband + Wife income)? Or were we supposed to just be doing individual expat income?

Bloody hell Dave just make a decision

Guys,

This is not a pissing match.

Just that some people think that people here living in Thailand (us expats ect) dont make much money. I know that people making more are of course more likely to put it in here and brag about it. But it shows that his assumption of 80% 30k a month is crazy.

Maybe the guys post in question was what some people are spending per month. I'm with you on this one, I also think people are bringing in more than 30,000 baht per month.

SO, is the OP sitting on here monitoring the replies and matching them up to when the posters names appear

One would think it is inherantly human nature to vote 1 bracket above what you do actually earn, but i reckon a few punters here have maybe stretched it to 3 or 4 brackets above.:whistling:

Your friend probably came to his conclusion because of the high number of farangs that teach English here, so therefor he might think he has a general idea of what they earn.

I am one of the honest ones, but having said that, i did vote in regard to only what i earn here, in Thai baht. I would assume many (including me) also have passive income streams or investments coming in from home.

I dont rate your chances of getting many honest answers...not for total income anyway ;)

Probably lot but even if i say that 50% is lied then still its far more then the 30k someone mentioned.

I am not matching names to amounts. WHy would i do that in heavens name. Im not selling stuff here in the kingdom.

If the op meant expats living here full time, I think the number would be lower than that, as you would need at least 40K every month just to get a1 year extension.

Ok, fair point. But i do think the number might be higher than you expect..

My reasoning:

There must be a good portion of farangs working as English teachers..so, taking into account of those % who are teachers, a certain % of them must be on around average 30k per month?

Of course some university workers get a lot more, but i suspect there would be more than a few farangs upcountry working for 30k a month and supporting a family on that.

I know myself, i can live on BHT30k a month here and sometimes save money every month. And when you have a few pennies saved back home, income here is a moot point since any investment/ income streams from home can stay in the bank earning money for the future..a rainy day..else sinsod and sick buffalo ;):D

I can't imagine living here on 30k p/m.

If you have no bills, rent, visa costs etc and it is pure day to day money, then perhaps, but other than that it doesn't allow for much of a life here.

Are you talking ALL taxes including property tax? There is a HUGE difference if you own your own home and property and don't have to pay for rent or a mortgage. I couldn't do anywhere near the things I do if I had to pay rent or pay for a mortgage. Being mortgage free is huge saving.

I can live on 30k per month if needed now i live of 40k. The rest of what i make i safe. But im living cheap plus the wife is paying too. 40k gives me a nice life but if i had to spend on the wife too it would have to be 55k or so. Now she just takes care of herself and part of the household.

But it was about income not on how much we are spending. But i don't mind as long as the thread does not go wild.

If it was posted on the Ajarn forum and it was 80% of teachers have income less than 30k a month after tax then it would be more likely to be accurate.

When I made this poll a couple of years ago the mods had to amend it to include over 500k, over 1 million and over 2 million to fit in all the earning bands.

Yups, me, my wife and 2 kids survive on that amount. 2 pickups, 1 moto and 1 kid in school. We have all the modern luxury like aircon, food, beer, ubc and internet but other than that, not much of a life. Hence, every 3 months when the family goes on a break, we break the piggy bank and have a good time.

If you're a smart expat, you shouldn't get more than 100K. That's about what I would earn if I were still living in Thailand. But insurances, house, phone, car, restaurants ... all paid by the company (+ school for the kids if you have ). Then end of the year bonus paid in an offshore account. We don't work for the tax department, do we ?

Actually that's what piss off my gf, she is not high enough in the food chain to have all theses advantages so she ends up paying more taxes than me biggrin.gif

I read somewhere the average expat has about 60k a month income. Sounds about right.

Personally, I think that is beer money. You need 100-200k a month to properly raise a family with a nice house, condo, car, etc..

The problem when you pay no tax / declare no income is when you ask for a loan from the bank. Bankers have frowned in front of my pay slip, that's all what you earn ? bah.gif And for some friends it was a straight forward "no". They don't care that what you earn is your pocket money because your company pay everything. They have charts, incomes Vs loan amount, and if you don't fit in their chart, you have serious explaining to do. Before it used to be easier but now banks are getting more and more conservative.

Beside a number of administration ask for your tax payment receipts. Based on my experience, they don't really care how much you earn, they have still this basic assumption that if you pay tax, you're an honest citizen, But if you don't, it's suspicious, you're a flight-by-night risk.
