PTT SAID IT NEEDS TO DELAY ITS PLAN TO STOP SALES OF BENZENE 95 BY EARLY NEXT YEAR

PTT Public Company Limited stated that it would delay its plan to stop sales of benzene 95 at its service stations early next year, due to ethanol shortage.

PTT today said the company needs to holdup its plan for ceasing benzene 95 sales originally scheduled for early 2006, as it is currently faced with uncertainties regarding ethanol production, where domestic factories have not been able to produce enough to feed to refiners.

This has prompted the Cabinet to approve importation of an additional 20 million liters of gasohol yesterday.

PTT, which has been assigned to import the ethanol, said it will confer with related parties to arrange for a sufficient amount of ethanol, as demand has continually increased.

PTT now has 1,200 service stations that distribute gasohol 95.
