Bit Torrent Without The Port Forward Issue

Hey Peeps,

I'm sure there are a bunch of people out there that want to sort out bit torrent downloads but are having trouble with the techy side of it. If ya ports won't forward then this is for you.

1. Download the Bit Spirit client from http://www.167bt.com/intl/ this client is the only one that includes an automatic port mapping feature.

2. Go to http://www.torrentspy.com or http://www.thepiratebay.org or http://www.torrentreactor.net and search for the file you want to download. Click on the torrent you wish to download and when prompted choose "Open with" and select bit spirit. Bit Spirit will open and you can start the download.

3. BE PATIENT!!!! Keep in mind that bit torrent is not like your P2P clients (limewire, Kaaza and the like) The more you upload the more you download... it's a give and take system. So when you're torrent is piddleing down the pipe at 2 kb per second just give it some time to download a portion of the file so it is then available from your computer to the world... After about half an hour Bit Spirit will throttle up and from there on in you'll be downloading all your files at a steady pace.

I'm on a 512 connection from True and my downloads are consistantly at 40-60kb per second.

Happy Bit Torrenting..

Bevels.

While on the subject of BitTorrent, does anyone get corrupt files and 'CRC errors' on unzipping some BitTorrent downloads. Is there a way to prevent/remedy this?

I've been successfully using BitComet for two months. BitComet also support UPnP, and I'm running Windows XP, and my router supports UPnP so no messy port forwarding for me, everything is done automatically.

In the file sharing thread I learned that DC++ also supports UPnP.

Does Bit Spirit also rely on UPnP? Or does it use some other means?

Never happened once over 3 years time, and several hundred downloads.

Can only happend due to:

- Faulty disc

- Faulty memory

I don't think it can be a hardware problem, since there are no corrupt downloads with other clients, only with BitTorrent.

Thanks for the tip, it's not a bad program. Played with it all day. Sad to report though that my torrents are still only coming in at maybe 20~25 kbps tops, actually a bit worse than than with utorrent or azureus. Strangely, their UPnP detector doesn't detect my router. Oh well.

BTW, you I also recommend people check out then new utorrent 1.2 which now supports DHT!!!! And their UPnP detect works for me.

I wanna get set up to do torrent downloads and found this thread from a couple of years ago. Can anyone update this information?...is it still current?

I'm mostly interested in the laptop configuration (XP) required for torrent downloading. I'm using the cheapest ToT ADSL service (500b/month).

If the above is now inadequate for torrent download setup can anyone provide a link for this purpose that uses a step-by-step approach for 'non-tekkies'?

thanx...

Currently the best client is uTorrent and it even works for me - no real setup required; the programs pretty much take care of that now.

Well the port forward issue is ONLY fixed if its a uPnP router thats blocking it.. If you have any of a whole host of other options then the client doesnt have any chance of unblocking it.

hi, lop...you mean that one simply downloads utorrent then selects a file from a torrent search site, say, isoHunt, double click et voila? Haven't tried it successfully yet as my net access is via a company server and being in Saudi there may be other local issues to consider. I'll try it when back at the ranch on leave next month (that is, when not drunk and attempting to post gibberish on TV... :o )

Beside of the torrent clients I do believe that most of you know alreadybthat some of the Torrentsites are blocked.

And the suggested TorrentSpy is blocked around the world in most countries include Thailand!

If I'm remember right, TorretSpy was loosing a court case and is blocked since!
