Dusit poll: Bangkok people want to help other provinces by letting the water flood the city

BANGKOK, 9 October 2011 (NNT)-Dusit Poll revealed that the majority of Bangkok residents would let parts of the capital city flooded to help other provinces while the rest opposed the move citing Bangkok as the economic center.

A survey of 1,380 people in Bangkok and its surrounding provinces also found that most of them are worried that their belongings would be damaged or lost in the water. This is followed by concerns over the scarcity of food and drinking water.

The majority of them also demanded that the government collaborated with every sector and increased food, water and household supplies for flood victims and for a more effective rescue operation. Only slightly above 10% of them said they wanted the government to protect consumers from being taken advantage of from rising product prices, particularly during the crisis.

Meanwhile, most of them wanted the private sector to supply necessary items to help flood victims survive the ordeal. The rest of them would like to see the private sector collaborate with the government in facilitating the rescue efforts.

In terms of media, most of those surveyed would like to be provided with fast and constant updates on floods from across the country followed by the need for them to coordinate rescue efforts with all parties involved for every flood victim.

The poll has also discovered that half of Bangkok residents do not have confidence in the government given the scale of damage and the amount of water at present. Meanwhile, the other half of the respondents believe that the government will be able to keep the situation under control. Similar poll results show equal number on both sides of the survey about their confidence in the government to keep Bangkok safe.

Do these people know what bubbles up to the surface when a city floods? New Orleans became a deadzone. And Bangkok dwarfs New Orleans by every measure, not only in population, but in the amount and toxicity of pollutants and contaminants.

BTW, I live outside of Bangkok on relatively high and dry ground. I won't drown but if large parts of Bangkok are submerged, a good portion of the country's food, water, medical, and just about every other type of distribution system will suffer major damage. Nobody goes unscathed if Bangkok gets hit too hard.

Will every poster that decried BKK inhabitants as selfish now repent?

No, as I have now lost all trust and belief in the Dusit Polling Group.

Can you really picture in your mind, in your wildest imagination, a majority of Bangkokians saying, " yes come on and flood me and mine, but just spare all the other parts of the country " Com'on give me a break.

Wow, change is in the air! :o

Not long before they yield right of way to pedestrians or other cars on the city's roads.

Its all good to offer their sympathies while they are safe. This matter should be have dealt with better from the start. In advance knowledge of this happening they should have drained water to allow for extra flow once the higher tides and flood waters arrived to BKK. Then maybe at least something might have been saved.

"-Would you agree to see parts of Bangkok let to the flood to help the provinces?"

"- Sure!.... Just not MY part of Bangkok"

I have a feeling that you have hit the nail on the head. When faced with rising waters, humanitarian concerns go out the window when it's between them and us.

Wifey says that the people in Bangkok have seen that those outside have something they do not, evidently they want a bit of the action :)

Not surprising actually, all the develoment in Chiang Mai lately is from Bangkok developers.

Selfish or not, the money is moving to flood free zones..yes?

And 90% of those lived on at least the 3rd floor

That's more or less what i was thinking too

Bangkok it's full up of building with so many different floors, it would be interesting to see the same question being made to the people which are going to be affected by this in a bad way, aka, all those living on the ground floors and see the results.

Didn't the Dusit poll get the Bangkok election results completely wrong. I'm with you on this one, I do not have much trust in their polling results.
