A BIDDER PAID A MILLION BAHT FOR 9999 NONTHABURI CAR LICENSE PLATE, AT AN AUCTION

An auction for car license plate number was held in Nonthaburi Province, in which the highest bidders, including one that paid more than a million baht for number 9999, consisted of popular local figures.

The Nonthaburi Transport Office had arranged an auction for its rare license plates, where more than 5 million baht is expected to be generated. The plates are especially embedded with insignias of pottery on the right and of the durian fruit on the left. Both items are considered the identity of Nonthaburi Province.

The auction kicked off with license number 8899 Nonthaburi, which was bought for 100,000 baht. The most expensive numbers were those with 4-digit repetition, such as the 350,000 baht 3333 Nonthaburi purchased by the mayor of Pakkred (ปากเกร็ด), the 650,000 baht 8888 Nonthaburi acquired by the Nonthaburi City mayor, and the 1.02 million baht 9999 Nonthaburi plate bought by a real estate tycoon.

The auction continues all day today, and no less than 5 million baht is expected to be yielded for the Transport Office.
