Swiss opening for Thai students, teachers

Physics teachers and students interested in joining weeks-long academic activities at a Switzerland-based institute have till October 15 to submit their applications.

Successful candidates will get an opportunity to work with peers from various countries at the Collaboration European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN), which is located in Switzerland.

For students, their CERN programme will last for eight weeks while chosen teachers will join a three-week programme.

Applicants to the CERN Programme for Summer Students have to be either fourth-year university students or first-year graduate students studying physics in Thailand. They must be no older than 25 and must have an excellent command of spoken and written English. Also, they must be Thai nationals.

Applicants to CERN Programme for Physics High-School Teachers must be Thai nationals teaching physics at high-school level in Thailand. They must have an excellent command of spoken and written English, plus basic computer knowledge.

A selection panel will screen applications and interview applicants. Only two students and two teachers will be chosen.

The successful candidates will receive grants to join the activities at CERN. Workshop preparations will also be provided to them at the Synchrotron Light Research Institute in Nakhon Ratchasima and at the Chulalongkorn University's Faculty of Science in Bangkok.
