ELECTION COMMISSION TO ASK THE CABINET TO DESIGNATE 19 APRIL 2006 AS SPECIAL HOLIDAY

Election Commissioner Parinya Nakchatree (ปริญญา นาคฉัตรีย์) said that the commission has invited Cabinet secretary-general Bavornsak Uvanno (บวรศักดิ์ อุวรรณโณ) and Prime Minister's Secretary Phrommin Lertsuridej (มินทร์ เลิศสุริย์เดช) to discuss the upcoming senatorial election date, as their term will end on March 21st next year.

The Election Commission will propose to the Cabinet to designate April 19th next year as a special holiday and to organize the election on the same day. He said that the election cannot be organized on April 15th and 16th since both days will coincide with the SONGKRAN Festival. Hence, it is difficult to assign officers to the election units.

As for the pending matter of yellow and red cards, Mr. Parinya said the matter will be solved before the end of the term.
