Bangkok Floods - Pratunam Area

Featured Replies

I am flying into Bangkok and staying on Petchburi Rd at the Amari Watergate Hotel from Sat 15th to Tue 18th. Have read that the waters should be peaking around this time. Any advice on the Pratunam area and if it looks like it could be hit by the floods and how bad things could get. I have lots of business and meetings in the area and am worried things could be closed and flooded. Any advice would be really helpful. Thanks.

Pratunam isn't in a part of Bangkok that will be exposed to major flooding, when and if it happens. The only real possibility for flooding in that area that I am aware of is if Khlong Saen Saeb (the canal running near Pratunam) overflows and spills into the neighboring areas.

Just thought WATERGATE Hotel is a nice name in this context...

LOL

I live nearby and it's not a huge risk. Some homes /slums are near the klong and could suffer, but the streets almost 2 meters above. You may have pooling in case of heavy rain and I guess it won't drain well, but river overflowing is not a danger - or if it is then the rest of Bangkok will be getting it very bad indeed.
