I had a multi entry non O (married to a Thai. Have children) that expired in August 2011. I have not been in Thailand since June 2011. I will be returning to stay for a year or so in about 2 weeks. I will have to go to the Thai consulate in Dubai and (re-do ? ) my visa.

The Thai MOI site seems to explain a non O in terms only applicable to a retirement visa.

I'm an American.

Has much changed in the process of obtaining the non O since I got mine last year in Los Angeles?

I'm sure it's been explained 3 million times but if someone can kindly go through it again that would be most cool.

Thank ya muchly

Most consulates will require the marriage certificate/copy of wife ID (and/or) children birth certificates/wife home register. The extra paperwork to to prove ongoing relationship so should be signed/dated by wife. Also good to have a short note from wife asking for visa to be issued (this has never been a requirement but is sometimes asked and has always been a key item for approval if any doubt).

Thanks LB3. :jap: I remember at the Thai Consulate in Los Angeles only showing my marriage certificate and the kids birth certificates and the application (pix, etc).

I had my Kasikorn bank book but they didn't want it. Had the multiple entry non o the next day (my sister had a single entry non o based on her being the aunt).

From what I've been reading the process seems more involved at many Thai consulates. I know I don't have time to get extra paperwork signed by the wife to establish an ongoing relationship (we're still good but if we weren't I thought just having kids in Thailand was enough to get the non o).

Would the fact that I already have a multiple entry non o Thai Visa affixed in my passport (expired in August of this year) make it easier for me to get another one at any Thai Consulate?

I live 2 hours from Mukdahan. Can I just enter Thailand from Dubai on the tourist visa and within the 30 days go over to laos and get the multiple entry non o from there? I could have the wife, kids, nannys (the whole caravan) with me in person :D .

30 day entry is not a tourist visa but visa exempt and airline might not allow without outbound flight. But yes you can enter and later cross to another Embassy to obtain a new visa - and then you would have the requirement paperwork. A multi entry may not be provided at Vientiane but Savannakhet seems to allow.

Hey,

Thanks again. So the airline that my company purchases the ticket from may inquire further when I arrive at check-in?

The lady taking my bags and gives me my boarding pass is where the issue will be brought up. I forgot about that. I've had these issues leaving BKK and just had to show a visa in my passport for where I was going and the one way ticket was no longer an issue.

I still have a Thai visa affixed in my passport. There is no expiration date on the visa so I guess there should be no problem.

I'm really trying to avoid having to stay 4- 5 days in Dubai while I apply for a new non o. I'll be arriving in Dubai (night time) 2 days B4 their weekend.

Will there be an issue at passport control at BKK? Or, do I just fill out the departure card as exiting to Savannakhet by land?

Yes.

Whatever visa you have in you passport does not have a date specifically designated as "expiration date" but it surely has a date preceded by the text "this visa must be utilized before"

You will definitely have a problem if you write false information of this kind on your departure card. Departing from an airport, you have to present your boarding pass at the immigration desk together with your passport and departure card and your false statement would be discovered in an instant. Of course, if you leave Thailand on the land border via Suvannakhet and then take a flight from Laos or wherever you should certainly indicate Suvannakhet as your departure point. Always write the correct information on these forms.
