When I was in Singapore, I had a REAL foot massage (foot reflexology), the kind where they press different points that correspond to your organs, etc. Whether that works or not, it was the best foot massage I've had in my life. It got rid of tiredness and pain in my feet and legs and actually did wonders for my back/spine (don't ask me how).

I was wondering if anybody knows of a place in Bangkok where I can get that kind of foot massage. The regular kind are fine while you're having them, but they really do nothing long-term.

I know just what you mean as I have also had some really, really good foot reflexogy done, and when done right it is as good as a total body massage. The problem is that it depends utterly on the skill of the masseuse/masseur and turnover tends to be very high. Bangkok and the other main urban areas are full of places offering foot reflexology (recognizable by the reflexology map of the foot displayed) and in these places they will all press on various points of your foot but the effect varies greatly, sometimes it has almost none at all. it is a matter of knowing both exactly where to press and how hard. Times when I have found really good masseuses, when I returned to the same place they had usually moved on... so it is really a hot or miss affair.

The one thing I have found pretty consistently true is that although places offering a range of traditional massage, including traditional Thai body massage, will always say they do foot massage, and may even display a reflexology chart, what one gets there is never proper reflexology. For that, look to places that do only foot massage....and shop about until you find someone you like as there will be great varaiation even at the same placxe dependding on the masseuse/masseur.

my wife is really into reflexology and she regularly goes to a place called Footmaster, which is on the 3d (i think) floor of Amarin Plaza (next door to the Hyatt Erawan). It is at the back near to the car park . According to her this place offers the most reliable and genuine reflexology treatments she has found in BKK, and she has tried quite a few. The owner, funnily enough, is a guy from Singapore who trained in China for many years.

Also good , but not quite up to that standard (according to her) is a place on Ruam Rudee called Ruam Rudee Health Massage.

Thanks, wordchild. I'll give it a try. I'd never had a proper foot reflexology massage before that time in Singapore and I was truly shocked at the difference. The massage itself wasn't that enjoyable (it actually hurt in a few places) but my feet (and my back!) felt like heaven for days after.

Yes totally agree, in singapore , the foot reflexology is 100% , all points pressed! I did this in Singapore and even Malaysia, but it's not cheap though. I remember a 40 min session cost me approximately 1000 Bht but worth every baht!!!!

They really pressed the main point with their bare hands unlike Thailand, I don't think you can get this type of foot massage , 100-150 Baht an hour, it's basically like scratching our itch. No real force, no real strength and sometimes they even use a stick that is a turn off.

But don't expect too much, 100- 150 Bht, what can we get????
