Birth Cert For Kids In Uk, Born In Thailand

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've been back in the Uk for a few months now and not got around to claiming family allowance. My kids have passports, which we obtained whilst in Thailand, but no British birth certs. Has anyone any advice on how I go about getting them so that I can claim? I remember that when I was in Thailand it was said to be cheaper and easier to do in the Uk I just can't remember how to go about it.

Thanks

The Thai birth certificate + Certified translation into English is accepted by every authority in the UK as a valid birth certificate.

What Ludditeman said but you can also register the kids at the FCO in London where you will get a British style birth certificate.

I don't see how you could get a British birth certificate if you wern't born in Britain, and as said, the birth cert of wherever you are born is legal anywhere.

I was born in Singapore, and have a Singapore birth cert, which was perfectly OK in any country where I have needed to produce one.

Of course would need a properly authenticated translation though, as pointed out above.

I recently paid 300bht for a certified translation of a Thai birth certificate.

But that was in Thailand, I suspect it will cost a lot more in the UK.

I also registered a birth with the British Consulate so it is listed with the GRO, cost 165UKP

Might want to check if a translation done in LOS is acceptable in the UK.

In NZ only translations done by approved translators ( in NZ ) are acceptable.

The British Consulate accepted it for the birth registration and Passport, so I'm guessing it's good enough.
