Is it possible to open a bank account without a work permit? I have lived in Thailand for nearly one year but only ever require a maximum stay of 28 days every 2 months. If so, which banks can this be done through? If not, what do i need?

Thanks in advance

This must be the third time you have suggested them. As you cannot possibly be on commission, is there something you are not telling us about the 'lassie' that works there?:DB)

Bahji have a look HERE. Discussion about bank accounts . A lot of banks will now open accounts with just tourist visas.

As Smokie mentioned, Siam Commercial Bank oppsite Fisherman's village entrance or oppsiteTesco

will do it.

All part of the fun.

13 years back I opened an account with the Thai Farmers in BKK with only 100 baht full stop - no ID needed.

A year later I did it again in Nathon.

But in the last year I've opened accounts with BK Bank and with Siam City with just a passport and 100 baht - plus more for an ATM card.

I wasn't asked for more than a passport, for simply a savings account.

If you want a deposit acc with a checkbook then you are in a whole different bucket of fish.

Walk about and see what happens - and then come back and tell us your story!

And - replying to myself - with BKK Bank you can apply for a "BE 1st" debit card. You can then link this with Ebay OK and no hassles. And then, as long as you have the money in your BKK Bank account to cover the outgoings, use this Thai Visa Debit Card on Ebay.

Clever.

Chopped my UK CCs and left the UK banks ACCs when I came here. Great to find that at least one Thai Bank (no doubt others too) is now in the First World.

I opened mine at K Bank on a 30 day stamp. Had a Thai person vouch for me with a house registration, and ID card. Easy. No need for commission. Just recommending the bank that is happened.
