you can't get that in Pattaya

Cambodia Embassy in Bangkok $20

In Cambodia at the airport on arrival $20

both only give you a 30 day stay.

exchange your baht before you get there or accept the worst exchange rate. there are no ATM machines and make sure your US dollars are not torn.

How much it may cost to fly there...

President Air 6000 to 6500 baht

...and make sure your US dollars are not torn.

I underline this and put it in bold.

Tried to pay $ 60.00 (3 visas) upon arrival, slightly, 1 mm torn. NO WAY.

Tried to use the same for departure tax. Impossible.

Changed it finallyt in Singapore, no problem. Vietnam more clever, they change with 10% 'handling fee' if only a little bit missing or torn.

Bit of info if you are going from Trat, not far from Pat ( 150clicks),however check out almost any of the tavel agents in Soi Post office for local deals.

Arrival from Thailand :D

Getting here is pretty straightforward. Get to Trat - Chantaburi to Trat and then knock off along the Gulf of Thailand either at Ko Chang or Snookyville.

From Trat, you take a seat on a minibus that departs more or less hourly about 50 meters north of where the bus drops you off. That minibus seat costs 100 baht and the driver will know where you're going.

The border at Had Lek is open from 7 am to 5 pm, and voila, stamped out of Thailand and into Cambodia.

Tourist and business visas are available to most nationalities on arrival.

You don't need a travel agent on Khao San Road to buy one, you don't need to purchase one in advance, and you CERTAINLY DON'T NEED to pay more than $20 for a tourist visa or $25 for a business visa.

At the Cham Yeam entry point (Cambodian side of Had Lek), however, brown-shirted thugs, I mean immigration authorities, will usually try to scam 1000 baht or up for a tourist visa (do the math on whatever today's $/baht exchange rate is) and 1500 or up for a business visa. I've heard reports of folks being charged 1500 baht for a single month tourist visa. This is ridiculous. But until more people point out to these crooks that they're clearly breaking Cambodian law, it will persist. If you pay more than US$20 for a tourist visa, or US$25 for a business visa, then obtain a receipt.

The Khmer word for this is "sombat." These immigration guys should write in the cost of the visa in the upper right hand corner, and ask them to write how much you paid. When the election fracas is sorted out, we will have the address of the Ministry of Tourism and letters complaining about overcharging should be sent in. Please.

Too often people shrug their shoulders and say 'this is Cambodia, what can I do?' - and here is a good place to start trying to make a difference.

The past few times I've crossed the border here I haven't been asked for an immunization card, which isn't required anyway, so it seems that the old scam of having to purchase two doxicycline tablets for a fee of $5 has vanished. Currently (July 2003) they are still requesting an information card for SARS quarantine purposes but there appears to be no requests for money, perhaps just a health officer performing his duties. Wonder of wonders!
