Conduit Toolbar

Featured Replies

this afternoon I downloaded a program onto my laptop and shortly after that my homepage using Firefox automatically added a new toolbar to my homepage which I don't want.I was happy with what I had previously.

I went to the Control Panel to " add or remove programs " and I clicked on the uninstall for the toolbar but the toolbar is still there.

The details for the page are as follows

http://search.condui...SearchSource=13

Does anyone happen to know how I can remove all aspects of this add-on toolbar and restore it to what I had previously?

  1. Open Firefox
  2. Open the Firefox Add-ons Manager
  3. Click the "Extensions" tab
  4. Click "Conduit Toolbar," then click "Uninstall."
  5. Restart Firefox
  6. On the address bar, type – about:config in the URL. Press Enter.
  7. You will be warned about Warranty. Click on “I’ll be careful…”
  8. On the Filter dialog box type – search.conduit
  9. It will display all related entries.
  10. Right-click on Preferences Name and Reset.
  11. Restart Firefox

thank you so much BB !:jap:

I don't know about you but I find this kind of thing so intrusive. surely they can come up with something to block

external sources from suddenly modifying the control of your browser without your express permission?

I and many others DO find it intrusive! It's a form of adware!

There have been comments that Mozilla may block automatic installations of these forms of hijacking Firefox in the future, because of so many complaints. Until then you have to be very careful when you install new software, especially freeware!

I highly recommend you use one of the Firefox backup utilities: MozBackup, BackupFox, or FEBE, to make periodic backups of your Firefox profile. That way you can recover very easily when the browser is hijacked, or you install a extension that doesn't function properly and makes a mess of your profile. ;)

Yes indeed. I also have to bear in mind at the end of the day nothing is " free "

They will want something back in return one way or another. I don't often get involved with freeware.

The program I downloaded was to turn YouTube videos into MP3 files which was the only way

I could get hold of a piece of music that I hadn't heard for a long time :)

I just realized that in my haste, I provided a link for the BackupFox extension, which backs up the Firefox Bookmarks and History only. It does not backup the entire Firefox profile.

For the BackupFox that backs up and restores the entire Firefox profile, use this link. It's a portable application that does not install..

Sorry about the mix up.:jap:

I haven't met the Conduit toolbar, but like you I do object the sw providers who try to sneak in

"ëxtra" programmes when you are not looking.

You just have to read every page of the Install sequence, and know when to say NO. :bah:

So they are becoming like micro$oft and blocking competition? :bah:
