Samsung Clp-315 Laser Printer. Software Problems

Featured Replies

I have just purchased a Samsung CLP-315 laser printer.

Unfortunately the software keeps crashing when the printer is turned off and turned back on again.

The problem can be solved by:

1. Reloading the printer driver

2. Restarting the computer

3. Restarting the printer

The printer works fine it is just a pain to have to keep reloading the driver. Also I am not sure it will be repaired if I return it under warranty.

Does anyone have similar problems with a Samsung printer.

I also have a cannon printer which seems to have bullet proof software.

Unlikely to be a real problem.

What operating system do you have?

Have you downloaded and installed the latest drivers from the Samsung website?

When you say "the software crashes" what do you mean?

I have windows 7, 64 bit.

I have tried downloading the driver from the Samsung website.

By crashing I mean three different errors that prevent the printer from coming online. As mentioned depending on the type of error it can usually be cleared.

Do you have a samsung?

I don't own this printer, but one of my customers does. I've spent hours trying to get it to run reliably. There are issues with the driver software, and other problems.

There are several drivers available on their website, and I can't remember exactly off the top of my head right now, but I got past the driver issue by not using the full installer package with all of the bells and whistles. I uninstalled all drivers and software, then plugged the USB cable in, which prompted the windows installer. I used the "Have Disk" option to navigate to the "inf" file and let windows do the driver install.

Other than that, the printer is a piece of shit. The latest problem is that it won't start a print job unless you open the front cover to the toner cartridges and close it again. That will kick off the print jobs in the queue.

If you are still within the 7 day window or whatever to return / exchange the printer for something else, I'd suggest you do it ASAP.

There dont seem to be any common problems with the drivers of this printer under Win7 64.

Installing the basic drivers without the more advanced control features might help, but I would be inclined to ask Samsung. Their tech support is usually pretty good.

Thanks for the advice.

As you say loading the driver without the bells and whistles may be the best option.

I am now outside the 7 day return window.

Over the last few days I have been able to uase the printer without too many problems now I know how to get round the software glitches.

I have heard that Samsung are removing the CLP-315 from sale but the CLP-315w will still be available.

It is strange that there was no mention of the software problems in the "reviews". In fact they were on the whole complimentary, makes you wonder who wrote them.

Thanks again for the excellent advice.

Your mileage may vary of course- but my customer has found this printer to be a big pain in the arse. Seems like there is always something wrong with it. They are a real estate / rental company that depends on their printer for rental agreements etc and need reliability; nothing is more humiliating than having to futz with the printer when a customer is sitting there waiting to sign on the dotted line and hand over the money.

They went and bought an inkjet printer for daily use / reliability, and keep the Samsung color laser for high volume printing of brochures, maps etc.

Agree with you about reviews- most of the time they are nothing more than glorified "paid advertising", or are censored to exclude any negative comments like a lot of hotel sites are. Going by the old philosophy that you can't please all of the people all of the time, I like review sites that do have some negative reports. They seem more honest to me.

Best of luck to ya- hope that you find the printer to be better than we did.

As a final footnote the Samsung software has a repair facility which will reload the driver.

A combination of reloading the driver or turning the printer off and on seems to solve the software problems.
