Cursor Freezing On Laptop

Featured Replies

Hi, i've had this Toshiba Equium laptop for approx 3 years now, I'm thinking about changing it, but would like to find the cause of this annoying issue i've had of the cursor freezing on the screen,

sometimes it happens after only 20 minutes after I switch on,, and the next time it happens after about 3 or 4 hours of use so it varies as to when it does this, I have to push the off button on the laptop to switch the laptop off and then switch back on again and that frees it up,,,, I did wonder if the problem was related to overheating, but I'm not so sure since as I mentioned the cursor sometimes sticks after only 20 minutes of light use, but then again I'm no computer whizzkid,

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

Hi smiling mantis, no mouse, only using the touch pad on the computer,,,, Operating Ststem is an er,,,stall purchased version of windows 7 shall we say as many do  ,,, but previously had vista OS and had this same issue,,

Sounds like a driver problem. You using a mouse?

Maybe you have a problem within the touch pad itself. Take it down to one of many pantip doctors to have a look at it.

Hi BenBear, yes, I had thought of trying one of these repair shops again, but there are times I will get a few hrs use or even 2 or 3 days before it happens and its a bit difficult to try and explain to some of these guys whats exactly wrong when the problem doesn't show,,since when I switch it off and on again the problem clears itself again for a while,, I did take it to the repair shop on the top floor at TukCom when I was in Pattaya for a weekend earlier this year, and they thought they had fixed it, but the issue is still there.

Thanks anyway

Full model number?

Hi Jiu Jitsu,, its a Toshiba Equium U400,, other numbers following the U400 look like PSU-42E although they are not very clear, and my paperwork for the machine are back in UK.

Thanks

Google is going downhill fast but it's still useful for technical stuff like this. Enter "Toshiba Equium U400 trackpad problem" you'll get a link to the Toshiba support forum talking about this very problem and how either reinstalling the driver or removing it(!) solves the problem.

This problem might occur because of using Vista's generic Touchpad Driver, in the absence of a hardware fault. But the fact that it is still occurring with Windows 7 isn't a good sign.

Have you updated to the latest BIOS?

Hi Jiu-Jitzu,,, think you may have hit the nail on the head there,,,, checked the last time the bios were updated and ,, well,, lets just say it's more than a year ago ,,,:whistling:

Guess now i'll try and find a decent site to upgrade on and hopefully that'll do the trick

thanks

Have you updated to the latest BIOS?

Use only the Toshiba website. The BIOS is here

Version 4.70-WIN.

Which version is currently installed?

Uninstall your antivirus solution and reboot before attempting the BIOS Update. You can reinstall it afterwards.

Let me know when you have updated the BIOS. We may be able to go ahead with a clean Windows 7 install, with an unadulterated Microsoft disc.
