Thailand'S Economic Situation

Some years ago a small, poor, rural town in Issan twinned with a similar town in the South of Thailand. The Pu-yai of the Issan village visited the southern town. When he saw the smart house belonging to the Mayor he wondered how he could afford such a place .

The Mayor said, "you see that bridge over there ? The government gave us a grant to build a two-lane bridge, but by building a single lane bridge with traffic lights at either end this house could be built".

The following year the Mayor from the Southern village visited the Issan village. He was simply amazed at the Pu-yai's palatial mansion, gold taps, marble floors, it was marvellous.

When he asked how this could be afforded the Pu-Yai said, "You see that bridge over there?" The Mayor replied; "No."
