Industry Minister confident 7 flood-hit industrial estates can resume operations by March / April.

AYUTTHAYA, Dec 4 - Industry Minister Wannarat Charnnukul said on Sunday he was confident all seven flood-hit industrial estates in central Thailand can fully resume operations by March/April next year.

Speaking after leading a team to visit Saha Rattana Nakorn Industrial Estate in Ayutthaya, he added the government is currently working on a rehabilitation plan and a clear prevention plan for the future.

The Industry Ministry and related agencies are also planning road shows in other countries to boost confidence among business groups showing Thailand has a long-term flood prevention plan and that the flood situation in the country has eased.

Regarding some companies closing down their businesses due to the flood crisis, possibly leading to unemployment, Mr Wannarat said Labour Ministry and his ministry coordinated with other firms and tried to find jobs for affected workers. (MCOT online news)

Govt to expedite post-flood rehab in Ayutthaya: PM

AYUTTHAYA, Dec 4 – Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Sunday visited Ayutthaya to boost morale of flood victims while affirming that the government is expediting rehabilitation work in the affected central provinces.

Accompanied by deputy prime minister and Interior Minister Yongyuth Wichaidit, Culture Minister Sukumol Kunplome, and Public Health Minister Witthaya Buranasiri, the prime minister attended an event to revive flood-hit Ayutthaya at Wat Kasattrathirat.

The prime minister told all parties to work together to restore flood-hit areas, public utilities and historical sites.

She said has she ordered governors and relevant agencies to expedite restoration, insisting the government will not abandon people. The government will speed up rehabilitate flood victims and she hopes problems will pass and next year will be a bright year.

The Prime Minister gave post-flood equipment and supplied such as rice cookers, water boilers, plastic boxes and blankets to local residents. She also released one million fish and prawn into the river in front of the temple.

Ms Yingluck later met health volunteers working on a campaign to prevent dengue fever by eliminating mosquito larvae.

She gave assistance money of 7.5 million baht along with rice seeds and fertilizers to farmers in Nakhon Luang district and 5,000 baht was given to each of 468 households.

Meanwhile, Culture Minister Sukumon said that flood-damage surveys on historical sites across the country found that 313 historical sites including 130 in Ayutthaya have been damaged. Building structures, landscaping, and public utilities were damaged from flooding which began here since August.

About 542 religious sites - including 470 temples, 49 mosques, 11 churches and 12 shrines - were also damaged.

An estimated 54.2 million baht fund received from the government and private sector will be allocated towards restoration, according to the culture minister. (MCOT online news)

Red Shirt People to Make Birthday Wishes For His Majesty

An estimated 1,800 Red Shirt demonstrators from Udorntani are coming to Bangkok to wish His Majesty the King an 84th happy birthday on Monday.

The Red Shirt activists, led by Kwanchai Praipana, are riding in tour buses from the northeastern province to the capital's Sanam Luang ground where they will join other Thais in the making of their best wishes for the monarch.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra will lead members of the public at Sanam Luang during the government-organized rituals to make their best wishes on His Majesty's 84th birthday in the evening of Monday.

The Red Shirt activists will proceed to Siriraj Hospital where His Majesty is staying to repeat their wishes the next day.

Kwanchai said all of his followers, who had been supportive to former premier Thaksin Shinawatra and a ruling Puea Thai Party, were attending the auspicious, annual phenomenon entirely on voluntary basis.

Meanwhile, Her Majesty the Queen of the United Kingdom also sent a well-wishing note on His Majesty the King of Thailand's 84th birthday and expressed sympathies for the Thai people affected by flooding in the provinces and Bangkok's suburbs since the last few months.
