I'M Looking For 2 Heavy Hardwood Doors

I wonder if anyone has a couple of 'majestic' hardwood doors that I can use at my new 'mini' resort in Phuket?

I have an entrance width of 2 meters, but this(and the height) can be adjusted to fit the door widths. I want to install double hardwood doors, preferably something impressive and old - no problem if the doors are chipped or worn.

There are doors of this type for sale in Phuket, but the asking price is 50,000 baht which seems rather steep.

Just to comment that I'm not looking for a flimsy, modern door. The type I've seen are about 1-2 inches in thickness of wood, and need very substantial hinges

I can collect from most areas of Thailand.

Simon,

I posted on the Phuket form thread about the place near Super Cheap, have you been there? It had a lot of different kinds of doors.

@Tigerwan - yes I went there but only saw what I would describe as 'flimsy' doors, albeit made of hardwood. The doors I'm looking for would not look out of place in a castle :) (I've seen some in a surplus building suppliers in Phuket, but the asking price seems rather high.

Possibly too far for you to investigate but Mae Sot. Stayed in a hotel there where the owners also had carpentry workshops downstairs and would build very solid elaborate hardwood doors and carvings. The hotel was full of the stuff, could only describe it as Thai Gothic ! A lot of that stuff in the surrounding area. Possibly another TV member in those parts may know of somewhere :)

@Roamer - Mae Sot is ok to visit, (I've driven up there before). It's a 2 day journey from Phuket, but I have the time if a rough price for doors can be provided by someone more local to Mae sot than me.

Simon, racking my brains to remember the name of the place I stayed, then remembered I found it through the LP guide book. Its the First Hotel. 05553 1233. Fax 05553 1340.

"This is among the more bizarre hotels we've encountered in our research for this book. From the outside it appears abandoned or worse. However, the inside reveals a fantasy of teak with elaborate carvings ranging from gargoyles to mermaids covering virtually every surface. The rooms are huge, floored in marble & feature even more teak carvings and appear quite comfortable."

Without doubt one the strangest place I have ever stayed in LOS, very enjoyable with just so much weird detail. I can only describe it as a bizarre work of love as it took years to complete, but chatting with the owner he always knew it was never going to attract Thai trade as it would be viewed as far too spooky. He found that incredibly funny. :D Definitely the guy to talk to, he would recognise what your after and be able to tell you if that's available off the shelve or if they can be made for you.

You could do worse than to give them a call. Don't know the level of English spoken as we spoke in Thai but don't think that's a problem for you ?

Sure I have some photos of this place, must dig them up.

Good luck.

Be a little careful moving hardwood products. I believe there are very high penalties for moving them without permits and permits are needed.

Thanks Roamer - I will have to go up to Mae Sot to see what is possible. Thanks for the info
