Chuwit files complaint about massage parlour reopening close to a school

Former Bangkok police chief Jakthip Chaijinda will soon be investigated for allegedly approving the setting up of a massage parlour across the road from a school - a repeat of a similar controversial approval given several years ago.

Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung yesterday promised that a probe would be launched after he received a complaint from MP Chuwit Kamolvisit about the reopening of the Elina massage parlour.

Chuwit, a former massage parlour tycoon and now leader of the Rak Prathet Thai Party, said that as a woman, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra should not allow the setting up of any new parlours and even revoke the licences granted to existing venues.

He added that the 1966 law legalising massage parlours should be changed because these places were just used for prostitution. Chuwit admitted that he ran a massage-parlour empire in the past, but said he regretted it and that society had forgiven him. He also challenged anybody claiming that he had secretly opened or was operating massage parlours to come out and provide evidence.

The Elina massage parlour is located on Ratchadaphisek Road near the Huay Khwang intersection, across from Triam Udom Pattanakarn Rachadaphisek School. According to law, the parlour's location is far away enough from the school to make it legal, but Chuwit says that it was morally unacceptable for a parlour to be operated there and that it should not be allowed to reopen.

A similar incident took place a few years ago, when Elina opened and had to be closed a few days later after the owners were attacked by the media as well as parents' and women's groups. The parlour owner had then said a senior policeman, who at that time was Jakthip before he was transferred out of Bangkok, had approved the opening of the parlour.

Former police chief Kowit Vattana had revoked the licence of Elina, but it looked like the owner was trying to reopen the parlour earlier this week as signs had been put up advertising vacancies.

After receiving a complaint from Chuwit, Chalerm said corrupt policemen "made a living" from the tea money given to them by parlour owners and said that the number of massage parlours in the country should be dropping, not rising.

He said that people who disliked him might think that he had made a secret deal with Chuwit to take action against massage parlour owners. He said an investigation into Jakthip's actions would be launched soon.

He ran a massage-parlour empire in the past, but said he regretted it. But he didn't regret the millions he made and in which he is still basking. It was those millions that gave him access to power... and "the forgiveness of society".

All this is self-righteousness at its best!

"these places were just used for prostitution"

Chuwit is wrong. The name say massage-parlour, i.e people go for massage.

These places are not call sex-parlour.

Actually I have the perfect solution . If Chuwit is so hell bent on prosecuting massage parlor owners , he can start with himself !!!! Round up a bunch of the young girls he exploited at his places, and have them testify that if fact they were nothing more than fronts for sex. Then with Chuwit in jail, the irony of him acting as a anti-massage parlor crusader can come to an end, and Thailand can stop making a laughing stock of itself.

So he very much regrets his past actions in an unsavory business from which he received millions of baht. I can understand that from time to time we do the wrong thing and wish to seek retribution for our misdeeds, be they criminal or ethical. So I wonder why he is taking so-o-o-o-o--o long to pop along to his nearest charity/wat and donate his ill gotten gains to them? :whistling:

I live around the corner from this place, and I always wondered why it had dark windows ... :whistling:

From the outside or the inside?:D

It hadn't been open before this week ... so, from the outside. I'll let you know about the inside later ... :whistling:

If DPM Chalerm believes this to be true, as Minister of Police he should be able to tell us what he plans to do about corruption in his area of responsibility. If he can spare time from his "Return the Boss" duties.

Next door to the aforementioned school is a Family Mart. They don't sell alcohol, I'm presuming because of its proximity to the school. Next door to the Family Mart is a 7/11 and - yep, you guessed it - they sell alcohol....

Couldn't the Thai authorities make life easier for the poor public by letting us know which are the policemen who are honest and which are corrupt? Maybe by wearing no smoking or no durian type signs on their lapels. They seem to know who are they and it would be a welcome public service.

Chuwit is a crusader and has had an epiphany after his involvement with Chalerm in politics.

He's a tough little cookie. Just don't rub him the wrong way.

He's seen here inspecting the plumbing at one of his former cultural centers.

Or immediately fire the police chief for not doing his job, just like you fired the last one.

No double standards thanks.

But like all 7/11 only at certain times. In my village I tried to buy a bottle of whiskey at the wrong time of day, about 3 pm I think and they nicely and politely refused to sell it to me and I am in there 3 or 4 times a week.

I got one at the whiskey and beer shop across the road but not what I wanted.
