T3 Again - Cytomel Or High Quality Generic

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am quite desperate for Cytomel, which is synthetic T3 hormone "liothyronine sodium". I need it for a hypothyroid condition. I see that there are manufacturers of generic T3 in Thailand, mainly geared for export to body builders (since T3 increases metabolism), but I see that these "garage manufacturers" get a lot of slack on Forums for uneven quality. So, while I do not have a problem with generics, I would prefer Cytomel.

I have visited 20 plus pharmacies, including the one at Bumrungrad. Nothing. I have emailed Pfizer Thailand (the maker of Cytomel).

No response. I saw a similar post on Thaivisa from 2007 that seemed to go noowhere. But honestly, I cannot believe that there are no reliable synthetic T3 in Thailand.

I am not interested in T4 (levothyroxine). I am already taking dessicated thyroid (which is a mix of T4 and T3) from pig, Thyroid-S, manufactured in Bangkok that I am happy with, but I need to supplement with half a pill of pure T3 or so daily.

Would be most grateful for any help!

I have used it in the past to loose weight faster. I might have had fakes because even at 1 tablet a day i almost saw no notifiable weight loss. (slowly ramped it up and off like advised). I also tried a few different brands all the same.

So that leaves me with 2 options:

- its never as strong as i expected it to be

- i had fakes

If its option two then its like you say.

Thought i just share my experiences.

I always have a real tough time loosing weight. Doing a good diet and loads of exercise hard core. Even then i loose minimal weight compared to others.

You may find it hard to believe, but indeed, there is no form of T3 -- synthetic or otherwise -- registered for use in Thailand.

The closest one can get is thyroid extract which of course contains both T3 and T4, and which you are already taking.

It is possible some of the thyroid specialists in private hospitals have a supply of liothyronine from abroad. If so, you wouldn't be able to purchase it directly from the hospital pharmacy but would rather need to have it prescribed by the endocrinologist. I cannot guarantee though that they will have it. If you go that route it will help to have medical records from home indicating the need for it since as you are no doubt aware, it is not customary to supplement both T4 and T3, only in special cases where the patient's body is not effectively converting T4 to t3.

Otherwise your only recourse would be to obtain it abroad.

As for the products geared towards body builders, if they aren't fake then they are illegal.

First, I am sorry for not thanking everyone for replying.

Sheryl: thanks. It is pretty amazing that pure T3 legally available in Thailand.

I have been using desiccated thyroid manufactured in Thailand for over a year, with pretty good results, but keen to get off it now. I think I would like to use a tiny bit of synthetic T4 and T3 by need - I understand that doses down to 2.5 mcg of T3 can be effective for mild hypothyroidism.

Thanks JAS21. I would rather not take time release, so I think I will have to see a doctor in my home country to get Cytomel, but a very unnecessary hassle.
