Chalerm: No Officials Will Be Spared From Law For Committing Crimes

Might I suggest to the rocket scientist, posing as Deputy Prime Minister Police Captain Chalerm Yubumrung that he increase police salaries, rather than just hiring more. Hiring more police will simply lead to more cops on the street, looking for a way to earn enough money to survive. If he is sincere about fighting crime, which I personally doubt very, very strongly, than he should consider effective ways of doing this. And is he only going after drug related crimes, or is he actually serious about fighting crime in general? And if that is the case, how is he going to eliminate one's ability to buy their way out of ANY CRIME with enough cash or influence? Is anything really going to change, or is this an example of just another politician goombah making another pronouncement, with zero intention to back it up?

I can hear it now, "Thaksin is not an official". Does that mean no more MP immunity. Jatuporn and Natthawut should be very nervous about that statement. This is more of the pot calling the kettle black. Rings similiar to "W" saying stay focused on who the real terrorists are and don't believe the "conspiracy" theories. This Chalerm guy is dangerous, a habitual liar and it's going to cost Thailand seriously in the long run very soon I'm thinking. I wonder just how many believe the stuff he spews, my feeling is many.

I agree with your final words 'I wonder just how many believe the stuff he spews, my feeling is many'.

I have an interesting example. My Thai adult son regularly talks to his immediate neighbors in our housing village and they often discuss things in the current news / current affairs of Thailand. The neighbors, husband and wife, are both doctors of medicine, middle aged, both work in the same government hospital, both never been outside of Thailand, both speak zero English (not really the point here of course), both have made comments that's it's a waste of money to be paying for better education for my son's children and waste of time for kids to learn English

My son recently asked them what they thought of chalerms 'drug war' (it was in the news that day). They both responded by talking about chalerm the man rather than the drug war, and they both basically said 'he's strong and powerful, that's good' My son asked about corruption - 'never mind, it's normal, my son asked about nepotism - 'never mind, he takes care of his family, that's good'

Before the last elections my son asked the same couple how they would decide what party to vote for, answer 'pt, because they promise to keep the price of pork and eggs down'.

Well said, i'm waiting for the day (probably won't come of course) when there is some actions to identify and investigate ALL people who appear to be unusually rich in Thailand.

Ask some older Thais folks to tell you how he got rich.

Except for Chalerm's sons ..one of which is now an advisor to the transport dept.apparently (yikes!). They're above the law, and if they do something wrong, daddy can help intimidate witnesses to get him & his boys out of the squeeze.

When you don't care about others, and only about furthering your families gains,

no matter who you need to 'get in bed with' to do so, this is a socio-pathologic mindset.

When you have that mindset at the top of the food chain, then those deemed inferior, basically everyone, are in for a bad deal at best, or vilely abused as disposable pawns. For the means mean nothing if the ends are reached. When you have a whole government built on this foundation the pain is spread exponentially.
